Jeep not coming before 2016

In June 2014, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) had disclosed that it was planning to introduce the Jeep brand in India in 2015. However, according to new media reports, the company appears to have postponed the launch to 2016.

FCA is planning to display Jeep vehicles at the 2016 Auto Expo and set up a separate dealership network in five cities. The company has been testing the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models in India. Both models are expected to be imported as completely built units. FCA plans to launch them in 2016.

Earlier this year, Fiat announced its plans to invest $280 million (approximately Rs. 1,780 crore) for the expansion of its Ranjangaon manufacturing facility. The factory will start rolling out Jeep models from the plant in the second quarter of 2017.

FCA's original plan was to bring the Jeep brand to India in 2013. The company delayed the launch to 2015, citing a sluggish market.
