Kia EV9 GT performance SUV coming soon, confirms CEO

Considering the EV9 GT version will be the top-of-the-line performance variant, expect it to be priced significantly higher than the standard trims.

According to a media report, Kia has confirmed that the launch of the performance version of its flagship electric SUV, to be called the EV9 GT, is "just around the corner".

The Kia EV9 GT is said to have been confirmed by the brand's President & CEO, Ho Sung Song, during an interview in March 2023. The company boss stated that the EV9 GT launch would take place sometime in 2025. However, no details of the powertrain have been released yet.

The standard EV9 will go on sale in the USA by the fourth quarter of 2023, with production starting at Kia's facility in Georgia. The standard Kia EV9 is powered by a 76.1 kWh battery pack with electric motors at the rear wheel producing 215 BHP. There will also be a 99.8 kWh battery variant, with either a 201 BHP RWD option or a dual-motor AWD version producing 379 BHP. The EV9 GT version might take upgrade inspiration from its smaller sibling, the EV6 GT. The powertrain on the EV6 GT pushes out 576 BHP and 739 Nm, sending power to all four wheels.

The standard EV9 already comes with DC fast-charging capabilities of up to 230 kW, allowing for 10 - 80% charge in 25 minutes.

Prices for the Kia EV9 are yet to be announced. However, considering the EV9 GT version will be the top-of-the-line performance variant, expect it to be priced significantly higher than the standard trims.
