Lynk: On-demand intra-city truck rental service

Chennai-based Lynk Logistics is an on-demand vehicle aggregator service that connects customers with truck drivers for easy movement of goods within the city. While the service is currently only available in Chennai, the company is looking to expand to other major cities over the next year.

Lynk currently offers three categories of trucks - S, S+, and M. The Lynk S includes small commercial vehicles like the Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo that have a payload capacity of around 1 ton. Lynk S+ has slightly bigger vehicles like the Ashok Leyland Dost and Mahindra Pik-Up. Bigger trucks like the Tata 407 having a payload capacity of 3-4 ton are part of the M category. Interestingly, all the aforementioned categories are available with either open or closed loading bays. This makes it easier for the customer to decide the type of vehicle depending on the nature of goods to be moved.

Customers can call on the company's official number 1800-258-2424 to book a truck, or can even do so through a smartphone app, which is currently only available on Google Play Store. There is also an option to hire a loader at the time of booking, to help loading of goods into the truck. Once the driver accepts the trip, the customer will get a tracking ID through which, he/she can track movement of the truck in real time. The company is offering an option of cashless payment through the Lynk Money platform, or customers can pay cash to the driver once the trip ends. The services are operational only between 7 am and 10 pm throughout the week.

Fares depend on the category of vehicle and include a base fare and a journey time rate. It must be noted that loading and unloading times are also considered as part of the journey time. The base fare for Lynk S is Rs. 120, which includes a 30 minute journey time. Every minute past this will be charged at Rs. 4 per minute. Similarly, Lynk S+ has a base fare of Rs. 135 for 30 minutes, and Rs. 4.50 per minute after that. The big Lynk M trucks have Rs. 240 as the base fare, with an additional per minute charge of Rs. 8 after the 30 minute threshold. Labour (loader) charges are additional.
