Maruti WagonR scores 1 star in Global NCAP crash tests

The car scored 19.69 points for adult occupant safety and just 3.40 points for child occupant protection.

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been awarded a 1-star rating by Global NCAP. The car scored 19.69 points for adult occupant safety and just 3.40 points for child occupant protection.

In the frontal impact test, the WagonR offered good protection to the driver and passenger's head and neck. The driver's and passenger's chests showed weak and adequate protection, respectively, while their knees showed marginal protection. The driver's tibias showed adequate and weak protection, and the passenger's tibias showed good protection. The footwell area and bodyshell were rated as unstable.

The car offered good protection to the head, abdomen and pelvis in the side impact test. Protection to the chest was rated as marginal. The side pole impact test was not performed as the car does not offer side airbags.

The child seat for the 3-year-old was not able to prevent excessive forward movement during the frontal impact test. The CRS for the 18-month-old showed a high risk for the head and weak protection to the chest. The car was awarded zero points as it does not offer 3-point belts in all seating positions.
