Mercedes Vision EQXX beats its own range & efficiency record

The EQXX is used as a testbed by Mercedes-Benz to develop the brand's future electric vehicles.

The Mercedes Vision EQXX concept EV recently broke its own range and efficiency record, after it managed to travel 1,010 km with an average efficiency of 8.4 miles/kWh across the Arabian peninsula.

The drive saw the EQXX pass through the urban and suburban areas of Riyadh and Dubai. During the entire journey, the EQXX also passed through both heavy traffic and open-road driving conditions.

The EQXX concept took 14 hours and 42 minutes to cover the entire journey and had an average speed of 68.5 km/h. What was surprising is, at the end of the test, the car's onboard computers claimed a remaining range of 192 miles (308 km) - taking the EQXX's total range to 819 miles (1,318 km). Mercedes also claims that the 8.4 miles/kWh average is equivalent to 282 mpg from a petrol-powered vehicle.

The EQXX's previous runs included one from Stuttgart to Cassis (1,008 km) and another from Stuttgart to Silverstone (1,202 km). In both runs, the EV averaged 7.1 miles/kWh and 7.5 miles/ kWh, respectively.

The EV is powered by a 100 kWh battery pack, paired with a single motor producing 241 BHP and claims a 0-100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds. The EQXX is used as a testbed by Mercedes-Benz to develop the brand's future electric vehicles.
