Michael Schumacher's 2002 Ferrari F1 car up for auction

The Ferrari F2001b is powered by a 3.0-litre V10 engine, capable of producing almost 900 BHP @ 18,500 rpm.

According to reports, Michael Schumacher's 2002 Australian Grand Prix-winning Ferrari F1 car will go up for auction later this month.

The 2002 Ferrari F2001b Chassis 215 will be available to buy via RM Sotheby's Sealed Platform, with bidding set to open between August 16 to August 19. The car will also be up for display at the RM Sotheby's flagship Monterey auction on the same dates mentioned above.

The Ferrari F2001b was used by Schumacher during the first two races of the 2002 season, including the Australian GP. The car also raced in Sepang, Malaysia, where Schumacher started in pole position and completed the race in third place. This race saw Schumacher make an epic comeback from pitting at the end of lap one to ending up on the podium at the end. Reports state that Chassis 215 is one of the very few F1 chassis to have never finished outside the podium positions.

Schumacher ultimately completed the 2002 season with 11 race wins and claimed his 5th World Driver's Championship.

The Ferrari F2001b is powered by a 3.0-litre V10 engine, capable of producing almost 900 BHP @ 18,500 rpm. It comes paired with an electro-hydraulic 7-speed sequential gearbox. The F1 car is said to weigh just 1,323 pounds (600 kg).

RM Sotheby's also sold Schumacher's F2003-GA at their auction last year, where the F1 car fetched $14.9 million.
