Ola to refund Rs 130 crore to owners who purchased chargers

1 lakh Ola S1 Pro customers who purchased off-board chargers separately will receive a refund.

Ola Electric has been ordered to refund Rs 130 crore to 1 lakh customers who purchased the off-board electric charger separately with their electric scooters. The announcement came following a government investigation which revealed that the company was in breach of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) guidelines.

Ola Electric is said to have sold off-board chargers as an accessory for its S1 Pro electric scooter. 1 lakh customers were charged around Rs 9,000 to Rs 19,000 over the ex-showroom price of the e-scooter. This is a clear violation of the FAME scheme, as per which, chargers and proprietary software cannot be sold by a company at an additional cost.

EV makers like Hero Electric, Ather Energy and Ola Electric have recently come under the scanner, following complaints about breach of guidelines to gain government subsidies.
