Rumour: 7-seater Renault Kwid (codenamed: RBC) in the works

Renault is reportedly working on a 7-seater version of its entry-level offering, the Renault Kwid. The car, which will be based on the CMF-A+ platform, is internally known by the codename - RBC. It is currently in its final stages of development.

In addition to the 7-seat derivative of the Kwid, Renault has also lined up another model based on the same platform. Gerard Detourbet, Managing Director in the Renault-Nissan Alliance's A-Segment development unit, has told the media that the CMF-A platform can form the basis for 6-7 different products in varying body styles.

He has hinted that alliance partner Nissan could develop its own product based on the CMF-A+ platform in the future, although it may not be a 7-seater. Nissan currently offers the Redi-Go which is based on the CMF-A platform.

Renault hasn’t revealed a specific time frame for the launch of the 7-seater Kwid in India. That said, the model could be introduced in other emerging markets in South America as well.
