Rumour: Datsun Redi-Go could get 1.0-litre diesel engine

Nissan is reported to have developed a new diesel engine that could be used in the upcoming Datsun Redi-Go hatchback. This new engine is rumoured to be a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder unit that produces around 55 BHP.

The Datsun Redi-Go is scheduled to be unveiled on April 14, 2016. The car is based on the same CMF-A architecture as the Renault Kwid. Initially, it is expected to come with the same 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine and 5-speed manual gearbox as the Renault.

The CMF-A platform was not designed to take a diesel engine. However, there have been discussions between Renault and Nissan to modify it accordingly. The Redi-Go could get the diesel engine sometime in 2017.

The Redi-Go will be Datsun's third model in India. It will be built at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in Chennai.
