Sony-Honda JV's first EV to launch in 2026

The electric vehicle could be sold online, along with a personalised post-sales customer experience.

Sony Honda Mobility - the joint automotive venture between Sony & Honda, has announced that deliveries of its first EV will begin in 2026.

The company announced that it will start taking pre-orders for its first model in the first half of 2025. The new EV will be built at Honda's facility in North America with sales in the USA scheduled to start in Spring 2026. The EV will also go on sale in Japan with deliveries said to start in the second half of 2026.

Reports state that Sony Honda Mobility could give a preview of the model on January 4, 2023 in Las Vegas ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The company has also released a teaser. However, it barely provides a glimpse of the upcoming electric vehicle.

Reports suggest that the electric vehicle could be sold online, along with a personalised post-sales customer experience.

The upcoming electric vehicle is likely to be priced at a premium, offering a range of new software systems, all developed by Sony. This will also allow the company to control the features and other services via a subscription method.

While details of the pricing, powertrain, range and features on board are yet unknown, reports do suggest the EV comes with a Level 3 autonomous driving system.
