Stuck key issue in my Tata Hexa: Change part or replace entire lockset?

The mechanic said, yes, Authorized service centres do not really go deep and investigate. they usually call for entire part replacement.

Need Help with my Predicament:

Dear Folks,

I own a Tata Hexa XTA 2018. off late my keys get stuck in ignition after i turn off the engine. Sometimes it comes out immediately and sometimes it takes 10-15 min. I always carry the spare key. When the key doesnt come out, I leave it there and manually lock the door with the spare one. after 30-40 min i go back again and voila, the stuck key comes out smoothly. Then I lock my car using the central lock button and all is good. I had got it repaired in TASS and all was working fine for a month till last week.

My key got stuck. As usual, i left the key stuck in ignition and locked the car manually with the spare one. But the problem starts here now.... i got engrossed so much in office that i forgot to go down and pull out the key and lock it using the central key button. my bad, i left the keys stuck in ignition for 7 days straight!!!! Today, when i went to the parking, opened the door with manual key, pulled out the stuck key, pushed it back again, now the car is not starting. In fact the normal MID is screen is not displaying anything, the radio is not switching on. I cant even change gear after pressing the brake pedal. the LED that keeps blinking when the central lock is on is now, not blinking. Is my battery dead? Please help and suggest. My apartment parking is in minus 2 level so getting is loaded on a tow truck is not possible.

Here's what BHPian NomadSK replied to this query:

Definitely your battery is dead. Modern day car keys continuously communicate with the car, if they are in the vicinity and this will do a parasitic discharge. Simply keeping it nearby will wake up all sort of modules.

Happened with me, I had forgot to take out the keys from the car while I was supposed to travel for a week, not only my car battery was dead, but the battery of the FOB was also showing low on the MID, once I charged the car battery.

Here's the update by BHPian vijay.arya:

Yes, you are correct. Thanks a ton for your response. Called up Tata Motors helpline and sent a mechanic in 30 min. He jump started the car and said that i must replace the battery. Its almost dead and may work for another month of so.

He also gave me solution of my car key getting stuck in ignition. He said that there's a small spring inside the ignition which may have gotten lose or lost its strength. He can check and resolve the issue for 2-3K rs. I said TASS saif that they will change the entire lock for 12K. The mechanic said, yes, Authorized service centres do not really go deep and investigate. they usually call for entire part replacement.

Who do you guys suggest I should do here?
