Got to test drive the Comet, as I am contemplating on replacing my ICE scooter.
Surprises:
- The car is quite spacious in the inside. It exceeded my expectations. Me being 5'11" and having a reasonably healthy build found it supremely comfortable in the passenger seats (will talk about driver's seat soon)
- Can actually seat 4 people. I skeptical on seeing the photos, but i was again blown away. Do note that these seats are only short distance friendly.
Pros:
- Easy to potter around town. The motor can comfortably pick up speeds till 85 - 90 KMph (in sports mode)
- The size. You can practically drive like any rickshaw (not that you should follow them )
- Airy cabin. Never felt claustrophobic, light interiors also help the cause
- Regen modes that work as intended. The strong regen mode made it possible for one pedal driving (given that you anticipate for surprises)
- Brakes are surefooted although you gotta be careful in turns, as the car has a tendency to roll owing to its tall boy design.
- Build quality. My test car had an odo reading of slightly above 32k kms ('23 model). The car had 0 rattles or annoying noises springing up when gliding over expansion joints or potholes. I'm impressed.
- Acceleration is quite predictable and linear, even in sport mode. MG/SAIC has done a good job of calibrating the throttle response.
Cons:
- Skinny tires will have tough time in tattered/ broken roads(with heavy load like 4 people on board).
- Suspension is jarry unless in full load.
- The doors are W.I.D.E. Watch out when you open the doors on roadsides
- Lack of alloy wheels in any of the variants is puzzling.
- There should have been an option for Fast Charging in the base skew as well. Currently only mid variants and above are equipped with it
- No space to hold a smart phone. This was a major oversight according to me
Comet serves as a good alternative for a scooter. The base and the mid variants make sense. Top variant is overkill. I was definitely sold after the drive. Mostly will end up buying one.
