Tata Tigor - production name of the Kite5 compact sedan

Tata Motors has officially announced that the production model based on the Kite5 compact sedan concept will be called the Tata Tigor. It is expected to be launched in India in the next couple of months.

Tata Motors is calling the Tigor India's first 'Styleback'. It will basically be a sedan version of the Tiago hatchback. The Tigor will thus share its platform and engine options with its hatchback sibling, while the front fascia too is expected to be inspired from the Tiago. The overall design of the car will be in-line with the company's IMPACT design philosophy. Most of the design cues of the final production model are expected to be similar to that of the Kite5 concept that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Powering the Tata Tigor will be the same 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel and 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engines that are found in the Tiago. Both these engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while an AMT option will be launched later in the car's life.

Rumour: Tata Kite 5 compact sedan to launch next month

As per recent media reports, Tata Motors will be launching the Kite 5 compact sedan in March 2017. The automaker hasn't announced an official launch date yet.

The Kite 5 is basically a compact sedan sibling of the Tiago. It is built on the same platform and even borrows various design cues from the hatchback. However, the sedan is expected to get blacked out headlamps with projectors, a steeply sloping roofline at the rear, a stubby boot and a high-mounted LED stop lamp integrated into the roof mounted spoiler.

The 'Kite 5' moniker is actually the name of the concept that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The company hasn’t announced the final production badge for the car yet, though earlier reports had suggested that it might be named Viago or Altigo.

Powering the Kite 5's production variants will be the same set of engines that do duty under the Tiago's hood. As a result, a 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel and a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol are the expected engine options.

Scoop! Tata Kite5 compact sedan spotted without camouflage

Thank you to BHPian RavenAvi for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!

The upcoming Tata Kite5 has been spotted in its production-ready form, without any camouflage. The Kite5 will be the compact sedan sibling of the Tiago hatchback. It was showcased as a pre-production concept at this year's Auto Expo.

The model spotted appears to be the top-end XZ variant. It wears a new colour tone, that hasn't been seen on any other Tata car currently on sale. The images reveal that the Kite5 will come with 5-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels, a chrome window line, and a thick chrome bar between the two taillights. The ORVMs get integrated turn indicators, while the B-pillar is blacked out. At the rear, there is a roof-mounted black extension that houses a long bar of LEDs which act as the third brake light. The rear bumper also gets a blacked out area, above which are placed two reflecting strips. The car will likely get a single reversing lamp, placed on the bumper.

The interiors of the production-ready vehicle haven't been revealed yet, but are expected to be similar to that of the Tiago hatchback. It is being reported that the Kite5 will get automatic climate control, something that the hatchback misses out on.

The Kite5 will likely be powered by the same 1.05-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol engines that power the Tiago. While the petrol engine will likely put out similar power figures, Tata might tweak the diesel to slightly boost its power output. Transmission options will include a 5-speed MT and an AMT.

Tata Motors is expected to launch the Kite5 in India by mid-2017. Previous reports had suggested that the production model might be called Viago or Altigo.

Rumour: Tata Tiago-based sedan might be called Viago / Altigo

Tata Motors is reportedly finalising the production name of the Tiago-based compact sedan, which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo under the Kite 5 concept moniker. According to media reports, though the automaker hasn't officially mentioned anything about the probable names, it has narrowed down on two options - Viago and Altigo.

The Tiago-based sedan will be a sub-4 metre offering that will be placed below the Tata Zest. The Kite 5 concept showcased at this year's auto expo revealed that Tata designers have managed to keep the profile of the car fairly proportionate, despite it being under 4 metres in length. The sedan is expected to borrow interiors, features and engine options from the Tiago hatchback.

No official launch date for the Tiago-based sedan has been revealed yet. Tata already has the Hexa's launch lined up for early next year. Hence, the Kite 5 production model is likely to be introduced later in the first half of 2017.

Rumour: Tata Kite5 launch postponed to 2017

As per recent media reports, the Tata Kite5 launch in India has been postponed to early next year. The compact sedan based on the Tiago hatchback was earlier speculated to be scheduled for a launch during this year's festive season.

Though no official word has been given by the Indian automaker, it is being reported that Tata is re-evaluating its future portfolio plans. The top-level management is reportedly keen on providing a combination of quality and competitive price in its upcoming products. Tata had earlier used this high value for money proposition on the recently launched Tiago hatchback. And with the Tiago being a success, Tata Motors is now reportedly aiming to redo a similar quality-price equation with the Kite 5 as well.

As a result, the engineers have been asked to revisit the Kite5 and study whether there are more scopes to cut prices, while enhancing or at least maintaining the overall quality. This has thus pushed back the launch window of the compact sedan, which will now be introduced next year.

Production-spec Tata Kite 5 revealed in new spyshots

The upcoming Tata Kite 5 compact sedan has been revealed in its production form through a set of spy images. The compact sedan is based on the Kite 5 concept, which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The production model name hasn't been revealed yet.

The Kite 5 is the sedan sibling of the Tata Tiago hatchback, which was launched earlier this year. Being a compact sedan, a small tail section has been added at the back, while keeping the overall length of the car under 4 metres. The front fascia looks similar to that of the Tiago, though the sedan comes with blacked out headlamp housings, which might feature a projector setup. The rear end though has been completely redesigned to accommodate the trunk. A long LED strip placed below the black roof-mounted spoiler acts as the high mounted stop lamp. The dual-section wraparound taillights are joined by a thick chrome bar. It is rumoured that the Kite 5 sedan will have a boot space of 420 litres, and will come with a reverse parking camera. Interestingly, the blacked-out roof seen on the concept hasn't made it to the production car.

On the inside, the ICE head unit has been modified a little. It gets a larger screen compared to that of the Tiago. Other features that have been added include automatic climate control and a centre armrest for the rear seat.

The Kite 5 sedan is expected to use the same engines as the Tiago. These include a 1.05-litre, Revotorq diesel unit and a 1.2-litre, Revotron petrol engine. Both these engines are three-cylinder units, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Tata Motors is expected to launch the Kite 5 based compact sedan later this year.

The Tata Zica will make its public debut at the event and Tata will also debut the KITE 5 compact sedan. The KITE 5 will essentially be a sub-4 metre sedan version of the Zica, with powertrain options, design cues and features being common between the two cars.

On the SUV / crossover front, the production ready version of the Aria-based HEXA will make its debut.
