Ok guys need an urgent reply.

Just fired up my PS2 after a couple of years - it plays ....yeah !!! BUT...

the image on TV is distorted and not clear at all. I can't read what's written on the screen and the games run in play-pause-play mode.

What could be the reason ???

The lens not reading as playing after long time ?
The game cd's gone bad ?

What ???

And what's the fix ---- come on guys, please answer asap.

Re: The Playstation 2 Thread: Questions, tips, prices etc.

Guys i am facing a problem with my PS2 console. Its a modded unit and its been 5 years now. Its also seen many power cuts and was working fine. But off late i bouhgt 15 cds from andheri, but to my shock none of them worked. I am scared now. has my lens gone kaput? Because the only cd that works for now is the GT4.

Can someone help? Do i have to get the console serviced? If yes then where do i do it in mumbai and what would be the cost involved? Do i have to replace the lens? If yes then how much will it be?

Niki

Re: The Playstation 2 Thread: Questions, tips, prices etc.

I know I am digging an year old thread. But I need to get games for my PS2. I ordered on flipkart and got some only to find that its PAL.

Since I got it from US, it reads only NTSC. And I have not modded it, and not ready to do it too.

So, the question is, how do I source PS2 CDs here around Bangalore?

I did try US, but now its so outdated that getting a DVD for PS2 in US is also a trouble!

I never use to play until I had a look at this God Of War last week. Oh man, its fantastic.

I got more interested now to get online with other t-bhpians. Anyone out there to help on this?

Hello, fellow PlayStationer!
To answer your question, you could try Glasgow Computers and Computer Citi on Brigade Road. Other options are Landmark. You get good variety, but not too sure about the NTSC availability though.

Or if you just can't get any NTSC games, pick this thing:
PAL to NTSC Converter Booster for Xbox 360 PS2 PS3 Wii | eBay

I guess this is to convert the PS2 output formats to TV. But the problem in my case is "DVD"s.

The DVDs are not readable if its in PAL format. I am almost done with the GoW one, and looking for the 2 and 3. Hope I will be able to source those in NTSC :(

FYI, GoW 3 is not available on the PS2.
I'm not aware of any solution ATM.
But why not just mod it? I see your hesitance towards the practice, but why so?

I agree. Have seen couple friends PS2 working not so good after modding. Ofcourse, it may be a rare cases. But still. Prefer not to disturb the set as long as its working fine.

Finally, succeeded in buying 2 "pre-owned" NTSC DVDs (NFS) from US. Just ok for the time being!

BTW, did you mean a modded PS2 can read any format? PAL / NTSC?

Indeed. I use a Modded PS2, Matrix Infinity Chip.
Never bother to check if the game is NTSC or PAL, all work!
Mine's worked fine for over 2 years now.
If you need your PS2 to be modded, I could help you with a place. The same place I bought my PS2 and got it modded from too.

GoW 1 is one heck of a game and 2 tops it. I havent played GoW3 yet, as I am playing Uncharted 2 right now. As you guessed, I am a PS3 player.

Getting a PS2 game from US is a breeze if you order it through Amazon. They wont ship it to India but if you have someone travelling from there, it will be easy.

I am sorry, but I have no idea about its availability in Bangalore.

Re: The Playstation 2 Thread: Questions, tips, prices etc.

Hello PS experts, one noob query,

My 8 year old son's PS2 is giving issues. I could hear the sound from the TV, but the screen is blank. Tried to reconnected the whole thing but to no avail, is it related to the AV from PS2? Or does it have anything to do with the memory card? My TV is fine with other sources like HT/MP/Digi Cam etc.

Is there any tips for troubleshooting?

just to make sure , did you connect the cables properly to the tv?
(red-yellow-white male cable has to be slot into respective ports)
usually this happens when we dont follow color coding of cables.
like inserting video into audio port.

in my case, I just cleaned the whole drive manually as the idle ps2 had gathered lot of dust.
Then used some philips cleaner with dvd to clean the lens.

after this, the ps2 did load the game.

In-Car Playstation

Hi, I found this product on how to use Playstation in your car. This is one of the few In car playstation / in car gaming available in the market.

It costs 550 USD if someone brought it from the US or 50,000 INR if imported via 20north.com website.

I know that it is expensive, but still might benefit BHPians who are looking for a similar product and can afford it.
