Wow! Those cars have been at Popular Car Bazaar forever! They were in 'decent' condition (meaning one or two were starting up OK, etc.), when I saw them a few years ago - sometime around 2000 or so.

these were nice cars which were done in by sipani. if i recall right they were the first turbo diesels in india, they cost about 13 lakhs officially, plus the 2 lakhs or so premium in cash that sipani demanded...

Definatly doesnt belong in the Import Section. I think its a close call between the Classics and Indian Car Section.

Here are some more pictures of Montegos I posted in some other threads.

Montego Estate

The last time I went there they had about 5 cars in the front. not sure if they had the rest at the back. The cars were all fallig gapart and were rotting but still had a pretty high sticker price.

To be really honest I dont think its worth it. The cars have probably not moved much since they were made and if you look at them you really would really have to love Montegos to buy them. If you want a classic there are a lot more options out there.

If they were goign dirt cheap it would be another story but Id rather put my money elsewhere.

Too bad the poor car has to suffer though for no fault of hers.

the estate was the first car in India with self-leveling suspension. with the motorised sun roof, and stuff, the car was ahead of its time, even though it was outdated when it came. Sipani then tried to reduce the price by offering the "club-man" version. Sad effort.
in 1994- it was priced at about 7L for the clubman.
Now, you can pick up a montego for about 1-2L, the engine is crude (in terms of NVH) but when the turbo kicks in it really flies.

Id say even 1-2 is overpriced.
