re: Track / AutoX VW Polo GT TSI (135 hp / 190 nm). BIC lap time: 2:39:111

I bought the car on October 27, 2015.

3 days later came the catback exhaust!

2 months later happened to participate in my first auto cross event. (Made a lot of friends that day!)

I was still on temporary registration.

That body roll tho!

Bought myself the GTI steering wheel with paddle shifters. Braking into the corners is a breeze and I can upshift at the perfect rpm and stay in the power band.

Did well in its class in the next autocross.

First thing I did with the car was upgrade the tires. The car had come with some weird 195/60 R15 tires. I switched to Maxxis iPros 205/55/15. They are very grippy and confidence inspiring. The tail of the car used to come out under heavy braking; all sorted with the tire upgrade. I could turn in the car at much higher speeds without worrying about losing control.

I went for a full decat, resonator delete exhaust with remus endcan. It's quite loud and those DSG farts are crisp!

The car had a lot of bodyroll. After a lot of butthole clenching moments, I went for Ksport Kontrol Pro Coilovers. The height and stiffness are adjustable. The car behaviour completely changes on coilovers. You can really throw the car around, the car listens to you. You can feel everything on the road, those inputs really help one as a driver to find the limits of grip.

I had a lot of issues with the brakes. I went through countless number of brake pads. I tried Brembo pads; they weren't as good as the OEM brake pads. I removed the dust shield from the hub because it was trapping heat in the rotors and was compromising the braking performance. Earlier there was a lot of brake fade. I couldn't do more than 2 hotlaps in a go. Post the dust shield delete, I can put at least 3 consistent hotlaps without any brake fade. The car needs better brakes for track use.

Building this car has been an amazing experience. Having a project car comes with a lot of ups and downs but every time I take her for a ride, it makes me smile. I have spent a lot of time on this project. This would not have been possible without the support of Prithwi (His latest project is a K04 laura which is batshit crazy!).

One sexy E30 for internet points

Good list of mods Tuning companies like Revo / APR are known across the globe for VAG cars.. Good decision.

Did you time the car : Stock vs Remap? 0-100 or Quarter mile?

I am not a track guy at all and all the figures sound Greek to me. What I understand a bit is the engineering aspect of the vehicle and all your mods make a lot of sense.
I have a GT TDI 1.6 remapped to 135 BhP and 250 Nm torque. A HKS muffler and Brembo ventilated OEM replacement rotors and pads that are on Yokos S drive 205/55/15.
My selfish interest here is to meet you up some time and experience the suspension because that's something I have been iffy about since 2014. Don't know how an upgrade will act up on the vehicle as a daily drive.
Any chance of a meet?

That's interesting performance figures. Usually the remap also increases the torque to around 30-33kgm but I see that you have kept it unchanged and only bhp has been increased.

I understand that the gearbox in the 1.6TDi (MQ200) is already operating at its peak as it is rated at 25 kgm. Keeping it unchanged makes a lot of sense. In fact, that has been one of the primary reason for staying away from remap.

Would like to know where have you got the remap done from.

Also, is it possible to have it done through OBD rather than taking the ECU out and opening it?

Lastly, how is the drive after the remap?

Thanks!

My bad.
The torque went up and the new figure is 300Nm.

I got the remap done from GT Tunerz over Petes or others purely for convenience. Rest of the places, I would have to wait for a week for the ECU unlock- so yes, no OBD route here. I would like to give a special mention to Akshay from GT Tunerz.
A very patient guy who first tries to understand your needs, he has actually refused a few mods with reasoning as to why I do not need those since its only the roads where I get my thrill unlike so many others I spoke with who wanted to sell me 3 different things along with the remap.

Post the remap- its magical how my car drives. The increased torque makes me drive in bumper to bumper traffic without downshifting much, and the vehicle breezes on 5th gear at 900 rpm, at really low speeds. Whenever I am able to drive like that, the car rewards me with a very good mileage of around 22 kmpl in the city.
The times i want to enjoy with sprints just to overtake, it makes me smile and the average remains between 16-18 kmpl. Thats about the drive. I feel more confident overtaking and its a joy to understand what tweaks can do.

Aren't GT Tunerz authorised retailers of ARP?
Or do they have their own maps also
?

Found something interesting. Some tuner based is South Africa has managed a OBD flash remap for 1.6TDI in VAG cars.

http://www.vwclub.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?t=144613

Btw, any idea which of the two, APR and Quantum Tuning, has a better reputation when it comes to working on 1.6TDIs?

Also, if you don't mind please share the cost as well.

Any tuner can do it via OBD if they have this tool called XL17 from Magic Motorsports. Only this tool company has cracked OBD protocol for PCR 2.1 ECU

I am not sure if APR supports 1.6 TDI in India. APR is one of the best in world when it comes to VAG petrol remaps.

I have not seen any tuner in India with that tool yet. Most of them use Alientech / CMD. Magic Motorsports tool is slowly getting famous and many tuners abroad are getting it now.

P.S : This thread is about Revo remap in GT TSI. I think we should not go more off topic here
