Does switching ON/OFF the ac intermittently affect the performance of the engine in prolonged periods but i think we can reduce the blower speed instead of switching OFF the AC.

It must be a Petrol Verna, as Raghu has mentioned the 1.6lr VTVT engine in his post. I think petrol gives somewhere around 13 - 14 km/lt on Highways, and it varies a lot with your driving style as well...

Hi BHPians,

I just got my new verna CRDI last month, and am i amazed , I brought it from TVM , and cost me about 7.8 lakhs on roads , then spent spent some moolah on a nice set of alloys and a Sony DVD ICE, system with a roof mounted 9'' flip down monitor. Changed her headlamps to 130W/100W Philips Rally bulbs and put in a nice set of windtone horns from Roots for use on the highways!

I drove up to Bangalore this on this and she is nothing short of a beast on the highways tap the accelarator at over 1800 rpm and she simply takes off. I am currently running the car on HiSpeed Diesel from BP and she returned me a mileage of about 24 kmpl on the entire trip with the AC turned on. Now gotta check out how miserly she is on the fuel in bangalore , also considering shifting to shell premium diesel . Will surely write back with the details when i get them.

Speeds averaged between 80 kmph to about 130 kmph (speedo reading ). Suspension is good , managed to soak up most of the nasty craters on these notorious roads. Braking is gud but i still would have loved to have ABS, ESP and Traction control on board this baby to make her safer. And oh yes i do miss the air bags and the hright adjustable seats .

But i surely do think that she is a good buy for a guy like me who drives 40 kms everyday to work and back. And yes i really gotta put in a word for the AC its really efficent the rear seats get cooled very fast. and this temp can be easily maintained.

@hellstar : Just curious, what was the reason behind getting the diesel variant, when your monthly commute is < 1500 kms?

Hello hellstar, it was a good review, thanks for sharing your experience. A couple of questions..
1. Regarding the suspension, what about the comfort level in the rear seats? When I took a test drive, I thought the ride was a little bit bumpy in the rear seats. Also, there was another review in this forum, where one of the members didnt go for Verna because of its bumpy ride in the rear seats.
2. For the long drive, what about the comfort level in the front and rear seats? Did you or any other co-passenger feel any back/neck pain or any other discomfort after the long drive? I'm asking this because I thought the seats (especially the drivers seat) were positioned a bit low. So, dont have much idea how this is gonna affect the passengers during long drives. Also, what about the back support and thigh support?

Hi luvjascha - th 40 kms to office is only the basic commute i am a very frequent traveller most weekend clocking anywhere between 500 to 2000 Kms per week end. so i guess that it makes a lot of economic sense for me to opt for the diesel version, but over and above that the peppy engine is amazing ... i simply loved it the first time i laid my hands on her ! ( for the test drive )

Vivekkr_99 - As for the back seat confort i am not very sure about it as i havent driven for long distances with passenger in the rear seat ( only less than 150 kms) and when i did go they did not feel any problems, but then again i think that , the perception changes from person to person as we tend to compare the experince with differnet vehicles, for me its been good !

For the long drive that i had from Trivandrum to Bangalore ( around 850 odd Kms) i had a co passenger and we did not have any pains whatsoever after the drive. The back support and thigh support are really good and firm without being hard . A friend of mine he is 6'2'' tall was very comfortable , so it should be comfortable for anybody lower than that also.

I now have some squeaky sound coming from beneath the hood when the engine is turned on and idling, i need to get this checked with the service centre... but other than this there has been no other problems with the vehicle till date .

Thanks Hellstar for the info.. This is what i wanted to know. I have a zen, and once my friend who owns an Indica traveled with me from Trivandrum to Ooty in one stretch (it was a night drive). After the trip, he told me that he used to have back-ache whenever he takes long drives in his Indica, but this time he didnt have any issues. His wife, who was sitting in the backseat also had the same opinion. Thats why I wanted to ask you about the seating comfort in Verna.

well really iam in love with my verna .its a super car........well hellstar me too added 16inc chrome alloys and jvc dvd unit with screen in the double din place,and kickers speakers..... And the car looks like a million bucks........only confused which seat covers to put.......

i would suggest to keep the compressor low so the a/c cut early

Verna looks really good (kinda sporty) from side- on...

I think people are starting to accept the looks much better... If only, they did something to improve the rear looks...

Improve the rear? i thought it was the front view which was a dud !!
I can live with the view from the rear, as well as the side profile, which is the best angle to view the car.
