why is the price so high in Delhi for the 9887 without B/W,in Mumbai i think the price is around 17-18 grands

Get the one which you are able to get and also on which you are getting a good deal. Both are good HU. I would rate them equally good.

Hows the clarity of radio in 9887?
I find that in my Pio 4750 radio clarity is not good compared to CD. I listen to radio when I am in city limits.

clipto333 get the 9887 and change to clipto9887 .
i am currently using the 9887 and had experienced the pioneer as well.both are very nice head units.
pioneer was a clear winner when it was released long ago(once upon a time in U.S.)
ALPINE 9887 is the clear winner today with even more technological advancements over pioneer880..both head units are having all the features your looking for but you'll definitely find a major sound diffrence only with high end speakers.AND THE MAJOR TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT IS THE IMPRINT DECODER..yet not launched in india but one tuned with the decoder you'll beat any pioneer any day!!

as for the radio clarity,its almost the same as other alpine head units (nothing special)

no, it normally is not. radio is good in a blau 2RDS HU. else u get aftermarket FM boosters around 800. will try one soon and post a report if they make a difference. company claims a 35 dB gain.

I am going to Ireland in Jan for a week. Is it a good idea to get it through websites in Ireland, like Crutchfield?

During last visit, I found the price of electronic goods in Ireland / Frankfurt Airport to be high.
