Muzaffarpur to Delhi via Gorakhpur-Faizabad-Lucknow-Kanpur-Agra-Palwal (NH2 & 71B)

I'll be driving my car from my hometown to New-delhi via Gorakhpur-Faizabad-Lucknow-Bareilly and intend to travel on NH28 and NH24.I require inputs regarding the state of these highways as in their condition and laning.I also require few tips regarding monsoon driving as it'll be monsoon during my trip(July).I have planned to do this stretch in 3 days time. All inputs are welcome.Thanks.

Not sure about the condition of the EW corridoor from Muzaffarpur to Lucknow, but this section should be mostly 4 laned. From Lucknow, it would be better to take the Kanpur-Agra-Delhi route.

Alternately, you can take the Patna-Gaya route to join NH2 at Dobi and continue till Delhi.

The precise reason I have asked SumitB to avoid this route and take NH-2 from Gaya.

Please do share your experience BoneCollector. It shall help many who intend to do this route.

I am surprised as to how this thread didn't get my attention earlier, else I too would have suggested you the same or via Mohania.

BoneCollector thank you for the information about avoiding NH24. I am to leave Shillong in a couple of days for Delhi and I, Sheel and Rahul were contemplation about which route to take. We had finalised NH2 but were suggested NH24 and then again decided to go with Purnia-Gaya to join NH2 at Dobhi. It seems this would be the best route to stick to. Please do post about the NH24 experience if you get the opportunity. Will help many others like me.

Re: Muzaffarpur to Gurgaon via Gorakhpur-Faizabad-Lucknow-Agra(NH28 and 2).

After weeks of planning and dealing with some unforeseen situations,i was able to make the trip.I hope this is of help to people who would like to venture into these territory.I was advised by the members here to avoid the NH24 and rightly i did so.I'm not a great writer so you may feel this report to be concise but feel free to ask anything that is required.
We(myself and my brother) started from our home on the morning of 3rd August at about 9:30am.The route followed by us was as per the snap here.
We had a fantastic drive till about 40 kms short of Gopalganj. The roads were pathetic from there till we crossed Gorakhpur and reached Sahjanwa. We were able to maintain an average speed of just 40kmph in that part. The 4 laning work thats going on in between these 2 places is shoddy to say the least with no markers for diversions or road closure. We had a tough time driving the car. Thanks to the good GC of Ritz,we managed not to scrape the underbody anywhere.Point to note is that the Gorakhpur bypass is non-existent as of now so we had to travel through the city. There was heavy downpour at that very moment when we entered Gorakhpur,so much so that there was waterlogging on both sides of the road.We did not stop anywhere but still it took us over 1 and half hours just to cross the city. There is a fruit mandi enroute in GKP which witnesses long jams.We left GKP at about 4:15pm and were maintaining speeds of just 40kmph.Few kms from GKP,the 4 lane started and thereafter,it was a breeze.Driving through Ayodhya and Faizabad was effortless as we were taken out of the city by elevated highway. As we were entering Lucknow,we climbed on a ROB at good speed only to realise that it was still under construction with no danger or under construction markers! When we came down, there was a lone policeman standing who was seen diverting small vehicles to other road but he was more busy doing wasooli from truck drivers. He stopped us and started asking as to what all is there in the car.We told him its our home stuff to which he replied, how can you take these things? You are not allowed to take your home stuff in car. Then my brother(ex army) threatened him and he apologised right there! So that was the only sore point in between Ayodhya and Lucknow. In Lucknow,we stayed at our aunt's place for the night.
Trip-545kms, FE- 17.84kmpl, Max speed- 110kmph. Time taken 12hrs.

I'll post Lucknow-Gurgaon details in a while.

Mods/Admin-I'm sorry but i have tried many a times to write below the snaps but not able to do so.How can that be done?

re: Muzaffarpur to New-Delhi via Gorakhpur-Faizabad-Lucknow-Kanpur-Agra-Palwal (NH2 & 71B

Day 2-4th August 2011
We were extremely tired due the kind of roads we faced the day before that we got up late. Our departure was planned for 8am but we started at about 9am and exited Lucknow at 10:15am after tank top.We were told that the area near Unnao is mostly clogged with traffic but on that day,we went from Lucnow to Kanpur in about 1 hr 15mins.Once we crossed the Ganga bridge,we went straight ahead as advised by a local and my Nokia5800 running google maps that we ended on the elevated section of NH2.Boy,what a road.Crossing Kanpur was such an easy task that we were overjoyed. We touched speeds of 130kmph on that section as the traffic was sparse. After crossing Kanpur, the NH2 is fantastic. We did not face any difficulty except while crossing Agra where the roads had many potholes. We cruised at speeds of 110kmph on empty roads. We had to deal with heavy traffic enroute at a few places but otherwise it was good.We crossed Mathura and then tried to locate us on google maps.It asked us to follow NH71B from Palwal to Sohna and then proceed to Gurgaon. The initial stretch of road is bad with many speed breakers but then it was manageable. We got heavy traffic once we took right on the road to Gurgaon.Road was ok but traffic was too much.We reached our destination at 8:15pm without any problem.
Distance- 575kms, FE-18.14kmpl, Max speed-130kmph, Time taken about 10 hrs

Points to note:-
1.Haryana police can be harassing at times.
2.You'll find morons in every part of the country.
3.Even though we had cars whizzing past us when we were doing 130kmph,i guess its always better to drive sanely coz a small error can be fatal, afterall its my life.
4.If possible, carry a GPS device to locate yourself while travelling.
5.Anyone travelling from north Bihar to wards Lucknow, better to avoid NH28 as condition of road is bad and worst part is,there are no markers for at most of tha places.Better to go via Patna and then hit the NH2 at Dobhi.

Mods-Please change the title of thread.

Best Route - Patna to Lucknow

Team,

I would be driving from Patna to Lucknow in a couple of days time.

We are planning to leave Patna at 6:00 AM and reach Lucknow on the same day.

What would be the best route to take based on current road conditions ?

Patna - Buxar - Sultanpur - Lucknow ?

Regards

Hello Team,
I planning a trip from Patna to Lucknow next week along with my wife and 1.5 year old daughter. from the info collected, I am led into believing that Patna-Hajipur-Gopalganj-Gorakhpur-Faizabad-Lucknow is the best option in terms of road condition and time taken. Bonecollector if you have travelled recently in this road or part of it please update.
Advice and guidance from other team members are also most welcomed.

Hi there and welcome to TeamBHP. I have not travelled on this stretch in recent past but have heard that the conditions around Gopalganj is not that great. In the route mentioned, the sector between Hajipur and Gopalganj is unknown to me. Moreover you would be familiar with the Patna-Hajipur stretch as it can take anything between 15 minutes to a few hours. The roads were great post Gorakhpur and what I've heard is that the Gorakhpur bypass is working. The only issue would be Hajipur to UP border. Which vehicle you would be taking?
