Re: Olympics 2016

I am sorry for my ignorance but I never knew that Football was part of the Olympics. Just saw it in the poll attached to the thread. How come it is not advertised at par with the World cup since the stakes are competition will be nearly the same, if not better.

This is because football teams (men) are only allowed to have 3 players above the age of 23 in their squads. This age restriction ensures that most of the established superstars of the sport do not participate in the Olympics. This is a sensible decision, as football has a bigger audience than the Olympics and you do not want one sport to overshadow the rest of the games.

Indian Archers look promising and if both the archers from the women's team win next two rounds they will be pitted against each other in Semi-finals.

Re: Olympics 2016

Why do we have to embarrass ourselves, where ever we set foot:

Though he is saying, he only stepped on the field once, and was unaware of protocol. Why is he even there at the Olympics...? Just sit back in India, and watch it on TV. It is no place for bureaucracy and red taped ministerial qualms. Seriously.

Re: Olympics 2016

Just watched India getting its First Medal in Rio Olympics 2016.

Wrestler Sakshi Malik won Bronze in Repechage in 58Kg Wrestling.

Vinesh Phogat too would have surely won in 48Kg group but was too unlucky to suffer the dislocated knee during the fight.

Re: Olympics 2016

Sindhu reserved a second medal for India today by entering finals.

Good match overall, but she had many unforced "out" errors which she can hopefully avoid in final tomorrow.

Sindhu playing for Gold. The game has been tensed so far by 1-1, lets see if Sindhu wins the third game to secure the Gold in Rio 2016, though task looks tough the way third game has progressed so far.

Olympics 2016

I am surprised at the very few no. of posts made on this thread.
What does it really indicates, I am puzzled.

Re: Olympics 2016

It indicates that Olympics is really low priority for Indians. If you don't spend any money on developing world class athletes, we have to be satisfied with 2 medals from people got it despite the lack of support and encouragement.

But... it is all going to change now. For example, Sindhu will be get some real coaching. Wow, what a relief, move over Gopichand... real experts are finally here.

True that, Trust me this congratulations will fizzle out in a couple days and we will be back to being our original self.

We will wake up for sure when the Tokyo Olympics will start in 4 years and start asking about the same questions..

When you see the olympians, one thing is common it takes years and years of hard work to reach at that level and which starts at ground level i.e. work with kids who are 10-14 yrs of age. We need more competitions to be held. Just sports day for 3 days in 365 calendar days isn't going to cut it.
