Carrying medicines to Dubai

A friend of mine has asked me to carry 300 strips of 10 tabs each, of a medicine called Amlogard. The total value of the 300 strips will be about Rs. 25000/-

Is it alright to carry such a large amount of medicines into Dubai? And can anyone tell for sure that there is no banned / controlled substance in this medicine. Apne hone waale biwi aur bachchon ka main iklauta hun.

Looks to be a tab for BP.

Recheck Qty. Is it just 300 ?

Carry original prescription & bill, for what ever you carry. But definitley Not 3000 tabs.

This is a prescription drug for angina, so I'm sure it does not contain banned substances. I have no clue whether this is available only on prescription in Dubai and hence cannot comment on the legality of carrying such a large quantity there. Were it a lesser quantity, you could have cited "personal use", but surely not with 3000 pills!

I was hoping people would be a bit more sympathetic in view of my future condition. Anyway, it's 300 strips, i.e. 3000 pills.

It is indeed 3000 pills, and for hypertension. My friend is saying that he carries 200-300 strips every time he goes to Dubai. Also that it is available in Dubai, and hence cannot be banned or controlled.

If it is available in Dubai, why doesn't he just buy it there? the prices raising his BP?

Even if you have a prescription, they will not allow you to bring 300 strips. Guaranteed. Furthermore, with that quantity of medicines, you can be sure of being subjected to other tests as well. Anything they feel suspicious, they will examine.

Honestly, I'm surprised. Since it is available in the pharmacies here, they have more justification to seize it.

It is illegal to bring in medicines from outside.

If you bring in 3,000 tablets I will definitely not be visiting you in Jail (which, by the way is air conditioned and quite comfortable with biryani etc - except that you may have a horny pathan for a cell-mate).

Strictly speaking rules are about the same everywhere where medicines are concerned. Take reasonable quantities and must have a prescription on you for any prescription drugs. It is true that many medicines in India are only 10-20% of their global prices. However, drug approval laws are very complex (thanks to western transinationals) and anything beyond your personal requirements (backed by a prescription) is technically verboten.

Taking medicines to any country is ok but you definitely need a prescription and also the quantity should be reasonable?? I mean 3000 pills is way too high a number. It's enough for all the angina patients in a clinical set up!!

1. Quick calculation tells me that this lot will cost Rs. 2.5 L in Dubai? So he is saving 2.25L if you carry it for him?
2. He has personal experience of taking in 300 strips.

Why not ask him to make a weekend trip to India and carry it back himself? What's the return fare to Dubai? 50K INR? He'll still save 1.75L !

Edit: If you meant it costs 25K INR in Dubai - then of course it's not worth it
