ECU Firmware Update from Tata for Safari 2.2 & Aria

The update : ECU Remap for existing Safari/ ARIA owners .
The ride : TATA SAFARI 2.2 VTT DICOR (2011)
Time taken for the update / remap : 15-20 mins followed by a trial run .
Process : Connect to the ECU using the ELM connector and flash the current version 1.3 and upload the version 1.4 to the ECU .

Just returned yesterday from the TASS(Pandit Autos , Bhosari ) after getting a voluntary oil change service, ahead of a long distance travel due next month .

TATA motors seems/claims to have come up with a ECU Remap version 1.4 for Safari / Aria that claims to have solved the jerk / krr noise / smoke puff problem .

The ECU remap/upgrade is available free of cost for all vehicles (BS stage IV onwards , under warranty ) .

TASS team's statement on the remap (Verbatim ):

We have almost remapped the ECU for around 20 odd Safari / ARIA till now and have cross checked with the customers and all are happy .

No problems reported so far and all customers are happy with the " No jerk problem " , vehicles driving smooth .

The new vehicles that have been rolled out of production for last 2-3 weeks are already updated with this version of ECU mapping and the existing vehicles on the road are being updated when they land in for service .

Have been advised to suggest fellow Safari/Aria owners cross checking with individual service centers on the remap availability since its only been 2/3 weeks that vehicles have been updated with it . ( The workshops manager knows what Team BHP is about )

Personal ride feel after Remap :

The ride has become much smoother and feels to be running rich on fuel .
My drive after ECU remap has been around 100 odd kms and I could NOT reproduce the jerk and puff problem alongwith the krr noise till now .
This is a case when my truck used to produce this pattern every morning / every crank/drive after a cold start .

No smoke puffs till now , the smoke release pattern has become smooth unlike it used to be in puffs . Now the release feels constant and smooth .

No drop in pickup on low RPM's (1800-2000) till now , like it used to be earlier .

No momentary loss of power .

The ride feels much smoother now , almost on lines of a sedan (partial could be due to the oil change ). I perosnally felt a touch of better pickup in low gears .

Having said that my personal feeling is since the ride feels to be running rich on fuel , there might be a drop in fuel efficiency.
Though I am yet to establish the actual facts , the remap for sure feels to have taken care of the krr / jerk problem .

Fellow BHP'ians who have updated the ECU with remap , please share your findings .

Note to Mods : Started a new thread instead of posting in the List of Safari problems , since the Remap update is applicable for both Safari / Aria . Please merge , if need be .

re: ECU Firmware Upgrade from Tata for Safari 2.2 & Aria

Mine is a 2007 Safari and is already out of Warranty. Some time during these 5 years I managed to change the EGR to a bigger one which had been introduced on subsequent models and the Krr noise has since disappeared.

Now whether they will remap or not (free of course) is a moot question
From my view point (based on my driving experience) I can do without the remap since the drive is smooth, there is no Krr noise and the fuel efficiency is good.

(I recollect that there was a remap during my warranty period ~ 2-3 years back which I had done.)

Good news if the jerk disappears. I just called my SA in concorde and he is not aware of it. May be they are yet to get the info. Thanks for sharing.

So if it is to eliminate the "loss of power" issue, can it work even for BS3 versions? Bangalore folks, if anyone gets the information from ASC please post it here.

Yes even I checked with the TASS folks and they confirmed on the same . However they say they would be able to furnish the detailed information in a weeks time from TML . For now they are just upgrading BSIV versions .

Thanks for the information.

Is it applicable to my 2009 Xenon XT 2.2VTT ?

BTW the vehicle has done 19K km & no problem of smoke while acceleration.

I just hate the turbo lag. (below 2000rpm)

rgds,
Nikhil

I have asked my TASS folks to ascertain if TML is going to provide any updates to the firmware of BSIII vehicles . Guessing since your vehicle is 2009 make , it would be BSIII . Yet to get concrete information on the BSIII vehicles , for now its just available for BSIV vehicles .

Today I also checked with Concorde Motors SA Mysore Road. They are not aware of any such ECU remap. I had not taken the print outs to show them. Next time I will take the print out of this page and show them.

Re: ECU Firmware Update from Tata for Safari 2.2 & Aria

I checked with KHT Motors (as my safari was purchased from them) the service manager had no clue about this.
Called Concorde Motors Hosur road, spoke to Tulsi Service Manager, he said the vehicle will be taken to the vendor to do remapping. I asked who is this vendor he said TVS, someone from concorde will accompany me with the vehicle to TVS and remapping will be done free of cost.
