Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

Well, I prefer single color too, but it looks like the owner Saptarshi and sierrakamat have decided to paint glossy black between the 2nd and 3rd lines, leaving the rest in matte.

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

Well I prefer the complete vehicle in a single color too. Just going with sierrakamats suggestion to see how it looks. Can be fixed to complete matt black in no time. The paint job is yet to start on this weekend so I have some time to change my mind.... Suggestions are most welcome !!

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

thanks for all the discussions on the second line black and the photoshopping etc BUT ultimately I will decide the colors all you guys are just INCIDENTAL as far as the sierra restoration projects are concerned and DONT you puppies forget THAT.
on a more sober note lets wait and see what happens i may paint the bonnet and the strip between the second and third line jet black just to see how she comes up feel the single color of matt black will be too boring (been here done that sort of thingy)

Good going Dr. Kamat. Fast work eh? I believe you are taking a liking to car restorations nowadays. What are your thoughts on visitng Allan and trying to figure out what he thinks about the 4X4 conversion?

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

Hi Guys,

Doc Kamat would have the latest pics. I am attaching some of the older pics so that you can see the transition from the Silver to the new color and see the wip !

This is with the repair work being done. The channel on top of the door has been sealed so no more water dripping in the Monsoon !

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

Keeping this as a separate to show the next stage of the paint job.

This is with the undercoat paint. The final decision (after too much debate - Thanks Doc Kamat for your help on this) was the Dark Mettalic grey color

The final coat of paint has been done. I have the photos at home and will post over the weekend.

The interiors will be complete by today as well.

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

OY HOY!!! Change of colour from Red to Dark Metallic Grey!!! Looks nice. Is it going to be a single colour or a combination?
Good job Saptarshi and Doctor Kamat. If all goes well, (monetarily), u will have my car by end of May. Let me know if atleast the top channels and some emergency work can be done pre-monsoon.

Kaustubh

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

One suggestion, though based purely on personal preference. Can you get the old, original Tata logo instead of the one that is there on the grille currently ?

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

Finally... I had given up all hopes about this thread, it seemed to have gone into a deep slumber.

@ Saptarshi and sierrakamat: Great going guys, the metallic grey looks good. I believe this shade was offered as standard on the Sierra at some point in time. I have seen a few first-gen Sumos too having this color (probably because they would be manufactured during the same time period).

@ sierrakamat: As far as I remember, the Sierra from which we salvaged my seats and dashboard (the one that was broken up at Kurla) was of exactly this color. Lets just say Saptarshi's Sierra is a reincarnation of that vehicle.

I see you guys followed the same color scheme for the interiors as what was done in my Sierra. Is it the same dotted material? What about the seats? New cushions/covers?

@ Saptarshi: Change the headlamps man, they look really tired. Since your car uses the inset rectangular CV-type beams, I think you can go for the new clear-lens type beams found on the latest Tata LPT 1109 EX. They look really good, and clear-lens will give you better visibility and light throw. Heres a picture:

Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries-tatalpt1109.jpg

@ condor: That logo on the grille is an original and authentic one, and quite a rare one at that. It was created in the mid-nineties when the erstwhile TELCO faced some issues with the original logo. It seems some European company making auto parts had a similar logo, which TELCO found out only when they decided to start exporting their cars to Europe. To avoid confusion in the minds of their European customers, TELCO was forced to go for the change. To make production easier, this new logo was also adopted for the domestic market for a short while. But TELCO reverted back to the old one shortly, possibly to avoid a major re-branding exercise in the domestic market. This logo was then continued only for the European market.

Sadly, I can't remember the name of the European company, though it is quite famous (I had once come across it in a logo quiz someone sent me). The name Talbros comes to mind, but I'm not sure.

Just search "Telco Sport" in Google images (Telco Sport is the European export version of the Sierra) and you will see that all the cars have this logo.

@ Saptarshi: I would suggest you remove that logo and keep it safe, since it is rare and hard to find. As condor suggested, get the old logo with the squarish 'T' and put it on, that way even if some prankster removes/breaks it you wont feel the loss, as it can be bought and replaced easily for cheap. Just my 2 paise.

@ kaustubh: Doctor Kamat has been sharpening his knives for you for quite some time. Get ready, you're next...

I am not sure which company it was, but I always thought the logo was similar to that of Sergio Tachhini. But ST is not an auto parts maker.

EDIT:
OT, but any of you guys have come across a spare Telco / Tata Engg logo ? I would love to have these.
TIA !
