1,2,3,4,11,12. Thanks for brining back the memories guys. It's been quite some time since I've hit the road. Other responsibilities have taken over. But the memories of these drives in my trusty Forester are superb. The Forester's gone now, so till something suitable comes up, I'll probably just take pleasure in listening to y'all.

Dear 4wdrifter (Harshit) - go for it in the little blue 800, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised. The car is much faster than it looks!

Best regards,

Probably is, Behram. If I don't find something soon, then little blue 800 it will have to be! But we digress - lets not make 800 part of this post.
All I can say is that I everyone all the best - keep on drivin' and keep on postin'

Re: Best Drives in India

HVK Sir, thanks for starting this amazing thread, this has become one great database for long drives. IMO it would be good if we can have links to the respective travel logs also, making it even more informative for all.

Re: Best Drives in India

Recently did a wonderful road trip to Kutch. The drive from Rapar to Dholavira, into Khadir Bet was a spectacular drive through the desert. Very isolated, hardly any vehicles and surrounded by the desert. The most wonderful roads really added to the pleasure.

I stopped reading after this. hvkumar, my salutes to you . Just wondering how could you achieve this...You are the Sachin of roads. This truly is an achievement.

I have done only Thekkady-Munnar (that too I stopped halfway). Hiding my face in shame .

HVK have you done this by now since it is nearly over 4 years since this post.

Also we could add some more sections to these best drive list.

Some personal favourites

Belgaum - Kolhapur - 110kms

Hosur - Salem - 163 kms

Mysore - Madikeri - 118kms

Re: Best Drives in India

Totally second the Belgaum-Kolhapur route. Just did this a few weeks ago. It is butter! Especially, coming from the Mumbai side, this route is such a welcome and invigorating welcome into Karnataka.

Re: Best Drives in India

Kumar sir thanks for the thread. Now I know how much I am missing things in life. I have done just 2 of the list. Still have so many to catch up. I think you are the best and most suited person to start a thread like this. Thank you.

Re: Best Drives in India

I'd like to nominate this road for the best road ever in India.

Place: Sikkim
Route: Gangtok to Nathu-la, not the short cut, the one through Dzuluk village.

Have fun.

cheers,
ac

I would vote for this if I had a chance to drive on this stretch!!

But haven't you already posted it here?

You want to rub it in for poor souls who haven't had a chance to do that stretch,eh?

>>>

ac,

This might as well beat the Transfăgărășan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transfăgărășan) which was anointed by Top Gear/Clarkson as the best road in the world in its 14th edition.

This is superb : deserves a drive at least once in one's lifetime.

Regards

Re: Best Drives in India

The short stretch of 40 kms from Ranchi to Patratu is a driver's delight:

Re: Best Drives in India

I would give the Barhi (JH) to Dobhi (BR) stretch on NH2, the road is smooth tarmac cutting right through jungle. Very intriguing, especially at dawn or twilight
