All-new made in India Jeep reveal in mid-2017

Jeep's arrival in the Indian market has been one of the most delayed sagas in the Indian automotive industry, but the showcase at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo marks a big step forward for the FCA subsidiary. While models like the Cherokee SRT, Cherokee and Wrangler Unlimited were presented at the event, many have been waiting for word on Jeep's new small SUV.

FCA India Automobiles Pvt. Ltd. President and Managing Director - Kevin Glynn, has confirmed that the company is going to build an all-new vehicle in India, expected to debut in mid-2017.

The unnamed SUV (codenamed - Jeep 551) will be built at the Tata-Fiat JV facility in Ranjangaon, with an investment of around $280 million. The investment will be directed towards the plant's expansion in order to build the new SUV and assemble a few other Jeep models at a later stage. The new Jeep model is expected to be offered with petrol and diesel engines and may share its platform with the Renegade, which has been spied testing in India.

Jeep is planning to set up exclusive outlets named "Jeep Destinations" in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Cochin in the first phase, followed by Kolkata, Lucknow and Chandigarh.
