Jaguar XE India launch at the 2016 Delhi auto expo

Jaguar revealed their rival for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 amid much fanfare in 2014. It was confirmed that the sedan would not be launched in India before 2016. However, a report by Autocar says that the Tata Motors subsidiary will launch the XE at the 2016 Delhi auto expo. A statement on Jaguar India's official site reads "Jaguar XE is available from 2016", further supporting this possibility.

JLR is heavily banking on the XE to raise their volumes. The XE is available with a choice of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines in different states of tune. The XE S performance variant, is powered by a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine. The diesel models, which use the new Ingenium engines, are offered with a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. In all likelihood, the oil burners will be the main variants designated for India. All petrol models are offered with the 8-speed auto-box as standard.

The variant list designated for India is up for speculation, but local production could be a consideration. Initial units may come in as direct imports, with local assembly following soon after.
