Renault has shifted production of the UK-spec Dacia Duster from India to Romania.
Built at the Renault-Nissan factory near Chennai, the Duster was exported to the UK. However, in the summer of 2014, the production of the crossover was shifted to Dacia's Pitesti plant in Romania. The company claims that the transfer of production is for economic and logistical reasons. With the move, the waiting period for the car, which was about 8 weeks when the car was produced in India, has been reduced by 3-4weeks.
However, reports that Dusters made in India were suffering from inconsistency in paintwork and corrosion issues must be taken into consideration as well. The company had offered to carry out inspections and if require, repairs on the affected vehicles. The work carried out would be covered under warranty.
Renault has sold about 20,000 units of the India-made Duster in the UK.
