Rumour: Suzuki may assemble Hayabusa locally

Japanese two-wheeler major Suzuki, is planning to start assembling the Hayabusa superbike in India. According to media reports, the company is finalising the plan under which, the motorcycle will be imported as CKD (completely knocked down) kits and assembled at its facility in Manesar, Haryana.

The Suzuki Hayabusa is powered by a 1,340cc, liquid-cooled, 4-cylinder, 4-stroke engine mated to a 6-speed transmission. It has disc brakes all-round with ABS and rides on 17-inch wheels. The bike is currently priced at Rs. 15.95 lakh (ex-Delhi). With local assembly, the price is expected to drop by up to Rs. 5 lakh.

In India, vehicles assembled locally, attract a lower rate of duty than those imported as CBUs. Manufacturers like Harley-Davidson (USA), Triumph (UK) and Kawasaki (Japan) have already started assembling their products here. This has enabled them to price them competitively. Honda has also announced its plans to assembled the CBR 650F in the country and now Suzuki is also gearing up to jump on the bandwagon.
