Tata Tigor AMT under works, to be launched soon

Tata Motors is reportedly working on an AMT variant of the Tigor compact sedan. Though the car maker hasn't officially revealed any timeline for the automatic variant's launch, the company's marketing head, Vivek Srivatsa, has claimed that the Tigor AMT launch is 'not far'.

The Tigor was launched last month at prices starting from Rs. 4.7 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is currently available with two powertrain options: a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol and a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel, both of which are available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, Tata acknowledges the fact that the Indian automotive market is showing acceptance towards automatic transmissions, and thus will introduce an AMT variant soon.

The AMT unit used in the Tigor will likely be similar to the one that is found in the recently launched Tiago AMT which is sourced from Magneti Marelli. On the Tigor, it will likely come with the petrol engine option and will feature a 'Sports' mode and creep function, similar to the Tiago's setup.
