Idle Speed

Hi Spike,

Its better to increase the engine idle speed to 1100-1200 rpm (Fast Idle), to pull these tricks.

Most Diesel Peugeot JEEPs have this knob under the dash board.

Regards,

Arka

Spike,

Descent = 1st Low. Max-Reduction/Min Speed; by product Max Torque.

Arka

Fast Idle

Hi Tejas,

The Main Purpose of Fast Idle is to rapidly bring the engine upto Ideal operating temp 80 Degrees for Peugeot Engines.

The Additional Advantages.
1) Higher RPM - Better Oil Circulation.
2) More range on the Accelerator Pedal.
3) Does not allow differential cooling of the head and the block.
as the Peugeot Head is Aluminium and cast iron block, when Idled over long period (Slow Ideal) the Head Cools down but the block doesnot, and thereby warping the head.
4) Better cooling - Due to water Circulation and Oil Circulation.
5) The Torque is slightly better than idle and the vehicle does not stall that easily.

Disadvantages
1) More Fuel Consumption

Regards,

Arka

I'm learning something new everyday!

So, do you suggest that every OTR, turn up the idle for best performance and engine maintenance?

Damn. I don't come for one OTR and my post is gone.

YZFRJ. Nice pics any way.

I had to give this OTR a miss because at last the Chennai Hams decided to hold a 'Fox hunt' on the same day & same time.

Before you jump at the term Fox HUNT, no Ham Fox hunts donot involve guns and shooting down foxes.

See Chennai HAM/VHF Enthusiasts Forum: A Thrilling Adventure : 2010 MARS Chennai Foxhunt

Me and my teammates had a nice 'OTR' on a bike and foot and climbed quite a few hills and in use quarries before reaching the foxhole which ultimately turned out to be a fox 'hill'

Na... this was a contract job. So I'm just a 3rd party vendor.
So your job is safe.

PS : I work for free and occasional "chai" and biscuits. So next time you know whom to call (hint : me me me)

Videos that i took :

Mohammad Ali trying the second obstacle. This video is of 'stage 1' (medium-steep ascent) of the second obstacle.

Ali doing the 3-point turn , between the stage 1 and stage 2 (steep descent after climbing over double skid-plate-breaking rocky humps) of the second obstacle.

Ali's first attempt at the stage-2 : he didnt get the angle of approach correct, and reversed back for the next attempt :

Ali gets beached at the first hump : few of us push him out

Ali clears the first hump and onto the second hump; notice how the jeep slides forward after crossing the first hump, and he tries to correct the steering. The second hump is more like a ridge : there is a pretty steep drop after that. The MM540 beached on the second hump as well, and as I was also involved in the pushing, no video of that activity :

After being pushed clear, Ali goes down the second obstacle slope

A quick video snapshot of the scenic water-filled quarry behind the second obstacle
