these truks would look good when lifted and taller tires etc.. but wont perform well while offroading as they are LWB and heavy!

you need a SWB rig to have fun out there.. and its only jeeps (not mahindra's) which could do that..

something like this..

Lift kits for leaf spring suspensions are much simpler and lower cost than coils. It is very easy to simply add a leaf or re-arch the leaf springs.

Another way is to add a block of metal between the leaf and axle tube.

Another way is do a SOA, or spring over axle, which relocates the leaf spring above the axle tube instead of below.

Off course all of these will require longer shocks.

Gaurav

Not bad but a better paint job would have given the jeep a much better look !!

This jeep is a piece of junk. That suspension won't make if very far off-road. That type of hydraulic lift is just for show and is popular among the "low rider" gangs in Los Angles, etc..

A good quality suspension kit for a 4x4 increases wheel travel and articulation thereby improving the off road capabilities while retaining or even improving street handling properties.

The world is a small place indeed! I have seen that exact same picture on a Team-BHPians profile page. I cant place who it is, but it was the same picture for sure.

So guys bottom line is that we should sit and pray that TATA launches the XENON ASAP and that too at a competetive price .. then we go buy that and then get around to importing a lift kit + tyres , get them fitted and hopefully have something comparable to these machines we see in the desert , going over boulders , etc :-) !!

Anyone working in TATA ???

As the owner of a MM340, I have to take exception to your statement. Mahindra & Mahindra made the CJ3B which is one of the all time best and classic jeeps ever made. And yes is as SWB. In fact these early CJ jeeps are what defined the short wheel base rig. It is the original 80 inch wheelbase.

By the way the pics that you have of the newer TJ etc. are longer wheelbase than the CJ3B.

As far as the fun factor goes, I can speak from personal experience. My good old 80 inch wheelbase flat fender MM340 with its nasty, loud, obnoxious, diesel 2.6 turbo is waaaay more fun than my boring TJ with its silent 4.0L petrol engine, and flexy coil suspension.

Gaurav.

Any lift job should include track widening, otherwise sideslopes during offroading can be very dangerous.

But why bother with a lift kit when you have this:

The portal hubs give it greater GC than any lift kit can even dream of.
