I came to check if there is an update on the 'winch' aspects of this thread and see this.
Though :OT for the 'winch' thread but for sure +1 to above comment about a huge & increased interest in 4x4/off-roading and the role of TBHP in it.
@Samurai: It is almost 1 year for the 4x4 section now and it may be a good idea to start a new thread to celebrate 1 year of this 4x4 section and have people talk about how they have been influenced to either buy a 4x4 or get involved in off-roading in the past 1 year courtesy T-BHP.

Well it was not pointed at you or folks like you. Honest. But yes meant for folks who go show me the proof.
Lot of people got into offroading because of photography. I got into it because i got a 4WD vehicle.

Inversely and very sadly it made the prices of Jeeps go through the roof. From a very cheap and exciting hobby it went on to a become a business and a con job for lot of dealers and garages. For every scrap turned to gold there are atleast 5 disasters.

Oye and spitting fire is not what i like doing, but now a days i have started reading looking for rosy sweet sounding words to make me write better on the forum. I am trying. :D
We had a very interesting winching session towards the end at Thippagondanahalli. The MM550 had to tow the CJ-7 up the last very difficult section. Since the Safari had made it to plain ground, the MM550 winch cable was tied to the Safari's rear tow hook. Sadly, I couldn't witness this properly as I was sitting in the Safari with my foot jammed on the brake (otherwise the MM550 would have winched it back).
So we had the MM550 winching itself up the slope using the Safari as an anchor and also towing the CJ-7 at the same time.
Experts who witnessed this can describe this much better.

The guy was asking 17k for the 8000lbs one.
I think they were Chinese

I think they are good enough if it is for the show off purpose only, but performance wice may not be worthy?

I enquired about some the winch with some chinese company and they offered me aprox US$ 200. If I calculate the frieght, custom clearance, import duty, I have to add almost US$ 300 or more. So the overall cost comes out is INR 25000 +. I wonder how they are able to offer it for 17K.
Anyway, did you find the 11000 lbs also as I guess 8000 lbs is not good for MM4x0s.

i dont have personal experience with winch but it is always good to have a winch with more power rating than actual weight on vehicle.
rs 25,000/- for 8000lb winch (made in china):eek:
if u ask me , i will not go for it,
because winch is for hard core off-roaders & i am not one (at the moment but in the future).
if i want one i will go for a reputed brand like
WARN.
(high) price should not be an issue because you don't want your winch to fail in the middle of any pull.
dose any one know about winch with compressor?

Hi Harjeev, its 5000 Kilograms as specified by Lamda, its a Hydraulic winch and the team from Lamda had brought in a prototype to Hyderabad, they had tested out one on a vehicle in Bangalore and spoke of positive performance and feedback, its priced at Rs 44,800/- plus taxes. Heres the winch on display, the setup of a hydraulic winch isn't as easy as a battery powered winch, you can speak to Azeez for all technical queries, he is pretty good at what he does.
Heres a Warn in action at the event, we had winching as one of the obstacles and now I see many new winches on Jeeps in the city after that.
Heres an old faithful PTO operated winch on a nice CJ3A from one of our earlier events
Also, could you please PM me the number of the dealer with the 17K winch in Mayapuri

So far, I only knew about Electric Winch, PTO Winch and Hydrolic Winch. This seems to be something new in the list. Can you please advice me what that lady doing with the pipe to attached at one end to the winch and to the other to a tyre. She is filling air presure in the tyre or sucking it :confused:.
That looks like a pneumatic winch with its own air compressor. I guess she is inflating her tyres with the compressor.
This model by warn has compressor & you can sue it for infilating the tires & Dingy boats too

Hello Everyone
I finally got one winch for my Gypsy, Ive recently bought a MM540 and iam planing to install a winch on it too, i would like to know if we can install the hydraulic winch available on those mini Escorts tow trucks or cranes, ive enquired that there are types eg 5 ton 10 ton and so on, i think we can use the 5 ton winch and alter the drum to fit as its too big .
let me know if this could work .
