Visited him using this 8 year old tip! Mr. Dalal is still going strong, very patient and helpful. Picked up 2 rated D shackles and a 6 mtr tow strap rated for 5 tons. Wanted the slim decorative bow shackles for my rear bumper but didn't have time to find them.

Tip for visitors: Ditch your car and catch a cab to the Carnac Bunder bridge side, then it's just a 2 minute walk through the lane. Place closes at 6pm sharp, so call ahead and check he has what you want.

Being adventurous, I drove the Dmax from the Masjid Bunder side. Let's just say my front bumper cam was well used

There's a new Indian site called Haathi4x4.com which is selling tow straps online at a reasonable rate. Anyone has any experience with them?

Picked up a 5 mtrs long tow strap rated for 4 tonnes from Mayapuri, Delhi. As mentioned by TSK1979 in one of the earlier posts, there are a number of shops in Mayapuri selling lifting slings/ straps, catering primarily to cranes/ lifting machinery. The cost was only Rs 960. 5 ton strap (5 mtrs) was for Rs 1160.
A substantial difference in price vis-a-vis the online prices.

I hope you have bought D Shackles to connect rope to a vehicle (except pintle hook).
Please share name of shop for everyone's benefit.

Shubhendra

I didn't buy the shackles, as I need to carry this stuff in a flight. Didn't want to increase my baggage weight. Shackles should not be hard to source anywhere.

I don't remember name of the shop, but google pin of the location is as below:-

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Rmj3Q

You can also search for 36 Toyota Mayapuri on Google maps.

Once you reach this road (Mayapuri main road), keeping Hyundai/ Toyota showrooms to your left, a km or so down the road, you would find a number of shops selling lifting/ hoisting equipment, including slings/ straps.

Hope this helps.

If I remember correctly, I paid around 3000/- for the 6 metre strap and around 100/- per shackle. Nothing extravagant.

Re: Places to buy stuff for Off-Roading/4x4 in India

Can anyone help me with a tow hook or recovery hitch for the Gypsy with OEM bumpers -- something that can be bolted on to the chassis rail ends, front and back ?
The U shaped tow points seem frail, and anyway, one cannot attach a big (4ton & above) D shackle to the front end because of the stabilizer bars.

I would prefer two points at each end, for distributing load. Can any bolt-on hook be had in India, for a just price ?

Re: Places to buy stuff for Off-Roading/4x4 in India

I have booked a Thar Petrol AT and eagerly awaiting delivery.

I want some pointers as to where I can source 4x4 equipment for the Thar in Bangalore. I'm interested in the Bimbra bumpers + winch and a few other small accessories. Also, where in Bangalore can I source BF Goodrich AT tyres ?! I had them on my Scorpio and absolutely love them !!

Re: Places to buy stuff for Off-Roading/4x4 in India

Guys can anybody please point to a place who sells soft shackles.

The Tow hooks in the Duster is pretty small and not all Dshackles fit in it. Also there is a chance of damaging the rear bumper. So soft shackles are the best best.

Have two pieces of 14mm shackles left if you are interested.
