Re: Maruti Gypsy MG413W - King Pin Bearing issue

Akaash - this is good to know. Let me reach out to Vijay and get his inputs on this. I would love to straighten it and do the Diff-Lock mod or just keep it as a spare.

You can straighten the tube by taking it to a lathe workshop. Dont do it often though, will break crack then Gypsy this is a problem, unless the spring and shocks are set right for the torture.

Re: Maruti Gypsy MG413W - King Pin Bearing issue

So should the springs be softer than now or harder than now? I am guessing softer but I am habitually incorrect

Softer will better dampers should take care of it to an extent. But at the end its the driver who will decide things will be broken or bent

Re: Maruti Gypsy MG413W - King Pin Bearing issue

Some pics. Doesn't look that bad here and the bend is quite gentle but it is there. I think this housing can be salvaged and kept as spare with diff-locks installed in another rear carrier.

Re: Maruti Gypsy MG413W - King Pin Bearing issue

How about an additional reenforcement over the carrier tube to make it more stronger?

Yes Arka has suggested Axle truss. Looking into this.

Good idea. Just make sure that welding of the truss doesn't weaken the already-not-so-strong axle tubing. I suggest going to an experienced welder for this.

Yup an experienced Tig welder, was googling saw some truss which can be bolted on. Allen should be able to help you make one of those and avoid welds.

Does it have to be welded on? Can't it be attached to the axle using U shackles or rings? I am guessing this won't be effective so welding will be necessary.

Anyway will try first with the straightened Banjo and then with the new replacement component. While I am at it I'll request Allan to look into the Anti-Wrap bars.

While all this is going on I'll try to learn throttle control

So much to do!

Not only Throttle Control sir, but also steering handling, holding, approach to a obstacle, pre planning it in the mind, correct selection of the Gear, etc etc..

Re: Maruti Gypsy MG413W - King Pin Bearing issue

my Landy also has a Banjo type axle housing ,the strengthening is made by the company itself (OE )

here is some clue , you will need to do it very thoughtfully ,It must be proper , not so easy as it looks

the key is the stress needs to be divided properly, otherwise you will create a 'new' weaker spot .
