Dear Shubhendra - don't monkey around with an engine swap in the Bolero, take my word, just buy a used Bolero VLX. It used to come factory freah with the NEF engine / Scorpio suspension. Then I'll tell you what to do to it to make it like MH15CM6341, which was my Bolero VLX, the fastest Bolero in India!

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Which engine would you recommend for Bolero XD3P 4x4? generation 1 gear drive or generation 2 chain drive or to retain XD3P and put turbo charger from DiTurbo?
An yes, i would abuse it ocassionally for offroading but primarily would be using for highways and exploration.

Hi ji,
chain drive only Cos that geardrive engine is notorious for oil pump failure & engine cease. First I bought it only because of money. I think that M2DiCR will be a nice one in bolero.

Bolero strome was available in 4X4 ?

XD3P head gasket is not sturdy enough to take pressure from turbo. You will be constantly having to change head gasket if this vehicle used regularly.

Best to go for an engine swap itself.

@sreejesh: Storme was never available in 4x4 guise.

Shubhendra ji,

I too was planning to turbocharge my XD3P, but all discussions ended up in overheating. One of my friend from Coorg turbo charged his XD3p using di turbo. The out put is not that much noticeable but the vehicle can be moved without the XD3P vibrations while releasing clutch with little accelerator so the torque is definitely increased but if we keep drive like normal XD3P reving it over heats so finally he removed the turbo. Now iron head is available for xd3p i am not sure how it will help.

Can you tell me the best way to fix the engine mount brackets on the NGCS chassis ? Welding or nut & bolt ?

Behram Saheb, its too late now. I bought 2002 XD3P Bolero GLX with manual transfer case and internal roll cage installed by M&M. I was under impression that Bolero VLX/Storme never came in 4x4, am i missing anything.
I dont want my bolero to be fastest in India, but it should not overheat every now and then, should cruise at 110-120 KMPH throughout the day. I will start a separate thread soon to take this discussion further.

Let me figure out my bank balance for engine swap. I already have two jeeps at different stage of restoration.
What is the power output of M2DiCR ?

Which engine do you suggest for Bolero?

One of my friend has recently installed turbo from DI on his 550, we have noticed that there is not much significant gain we have achieved. we have driven his 550 is all kind of scenario for 2000 kms including 2 days event of Gokak. It does not overheat, even if driven rashly.
There are few owners of XD3P engines who are driving it from ages without any problem. but i will also try to stay away from it.
Sreejesh bhai, i have no idea about NGCS, i am new to it. Will not comment as 'no information is better than wrong information'

Shubhendra Ji,

I was planning to put a tata sierra turbo on XD3P but again rebuild + turbo ,modification for a test was not economical So dropped the plan.

Yesterday went to the workshop to give the Engine, it was sad to see my jeep laying like an orphan .

This CJ3B is undergoing lot of interesting modifications , & My XD3P

1. Rear Disc Break
2. new model wider lead springs with silent block Bush & perch from pik-up series
3. Army XD3P
4. NGT520 + TC (Drive shaft is just about 10")
5. Custom made OKBJ on front
6. Custom made Wheel hub on rear to accommodate disc break.
7.Fuel tank moved to tub.

NGT520 mated to BellHousing

MM550 XD NGCS - The War Horse-img20131130wa0003.jpg

Checking the alignment in a traditional way :)

MM550 XD NGCS - The War Horse-img20131130wa0010.jpg

Found the drive shaft is fowling with block.

MM550 XD NGCS - The War Horse-img20131130wa0006.jpg

Solved the drive shaft travel issue with enough space to travel :D.

Engine assembling will start today.

1) why the adaptor plate? where does it sit (cant see in pics) Is it between engine and bell housing?

2) who made it? Can you ask around if the same can be done for a Mdi3200 with BA10? Just for gyan.

3) How much did the adaptor plate cost you? Attempts?

4) Where is the front prop shaft fouling and how did you correct it? Cant make out either of the points!

All the best!!

@svsantosh

The adapter plate is fit between the SZ engine bellhouse and NGT520 Gear Box. Very neat job.

To mate the MdI3200TC & BA10 you could use a MDi-NGT520 bellhouse on your BA10 but i'm not sure about the clutch slave cylinder and the input shaft length.

My dream jeep is getting ready with SZ2600 chain drive.

Sreejesh any idea what tyres are there on this thing? Dhabhar saab? This was a one-off showcase project if I am not mistaken?

I am really looking for an MT (equivalent to 7.5 x 16 size but ATLEAST 31" in diameter) alternative for my soon-to-arrive NGCS. The Trepadors look nice on smaller old-school jeeps but really stunted on a tall army jeep. And I don't want to go for the fat, Prado-spec 32" Coopers for cost and weight reasons. Since Arka has been kind and patient enough to answer all my silly questions and confirm that the NGCS wheels are lighter than the previous-gen jeeps', I won't be upgrading to fat wheels for now...

Sorry again for going slightly OT as usual. :deadhorse

@vivek:

These tyres on Sreejesh's jeep are MRF Super Traction. Right now they don't have 8 ply in stock. 16 Ply is too hard/stiff for Jeep use. The most cost effective solution is to get Speedways, 7.50 x 16 Tyres 8 ply NDMS tyres. They are not great for on -road so best to keep an extra NGCS Rim with these tyres for off-road use. Tyres cost about 5K each. give you 31 inch height without stress on steering components.

My mech made the adaptor plate & He is an expert with Metal & machines. it can be Santhosh First I was not confident on the work Because I am doing it first time But after the finished Job I am Happy & confident enough for Next Mod :D .

Total Cost Still not calculated. Single attempts, Thats why I like the Mechanic He designs, plans, calculates, visualizes then One Build "DONE" .

Prop shaft fouling corrected by a shortcut which was present in the NGCS Chassis Itself found By Biju (That CJ3B owner) I need to test It on BAOTR .DB Sir will shoot me if I post the pic . Articulation on front right is decreased for few inches.

Engine Assembling started & found few parts are missing So i am going to Mettupalayam & Coimbathur this wednesday for Parts Hunt.

BTW What will be the Power / Torque lose of SZ2600 without Turbo ? (109bhp@3800 /26kg@1800 with Turbo) Will it deliver a 80+bhp / 20+kgm torque without Turbo ?

Skid plate design .
