re: PICS : The rare MM540. NGCS, 4WD & 1.8L PETROL

Here is a "Newbie" Team-Bhpian who owns an MM ISZ. Sadly he hasn't talked about it much.

It seems that the MM ISZ was launched to dethrone the Maruti Gypsy. It was mostly sold to the police forces in Northern India. Here is one such example from the web.

What memories! Shows that engineers used to have so much fun back then. Rarely see such variants today.

Been lucky enough to drive one at a Great Escape. IIRC, it was the event that started from the Karnala Bird Sanctuary.

The MM ISZ was a monster at the time. Remember, no common-rail diesels were available then, and all Jeeps I'd driven were 60 - 70 BHP diesels. Unlike our slow Jeeps, this one was actually F-A-S-T.

I think the one Mahindra got to the Great Escape was a 2WD. Didn't matter, it still used sheer horsepower and flew through everything in its way.

Fantastic find sir! So this pic clearly shows that the MM Petrol had this fancy plastic cladding even before Armada.

OT:

Was that Sutlej double decker released in India? Why can't it be brought back now? Given we have Volvo's, Merc's as a common sight, including the B11R PX!?

Its a beautiful beast! Imagine a rattle free MM! With a bigger heart, it would've given the Gypsies a run for their money.

A run for money to gypsy with a 5 kmpl FE. I doubt. I had driven a MM ISZ for quite some time and it was no doubt a noiseless vehicle as compared to other MMs but Gypsy was still more easier and more fun.

Why did it get that ugly looking plastic add on on the front grill ? A jeeps slat grill is a legend in itself but trust Mahindra to care two hoots about asthetics.

The MM550 ISZ gives much more FE than 5kmpl.. Say around 9ish.. However, revv it hard all the way till the limiter, off the road, and you can SEE the tank going empty.

Here's a couple of videos of this beast in action!.

Re: PICS : The rare MM550. NGCS, 4WD & 1.8L PETROL

here's a few pictures from the just concluded great escape in lonavala.
yes, it's a 4WD MM540 ISZ Petrol, i bought it in Jan 2000.
9km/ltr is about right for the fuel efficiency, i drive it every day and have been for more than 13 years.
it's a beauty and there aren't many around.

Re: PICS : The rare MM550. NGCS, 4WD & 1.8L PETROL

Hi.

Asking a very stupid question, experts kindly reply

Is MM440 same as what is captioned above? MM ISZ? 440 also comes with a petrol engine. I am not sure whether it is a 3 speed or 4 speed. but it is a monster offroad.

Andy
