Hardtop mahindra 4x4's

Hi All, this might not be as exciting thread as others, but here is what it is

From the past few months i am envisaging to own a hard top jeep like the police have in blue some times its written as DP (or may be a commander in disguise) on them, I imagine them shod with radials on sheet rims / Alloys - military green (gloss) and 3M light green tint on the windows with AC,

I want it to have the 4x4 capability so that I can encourage my self to be a bit daring on the off road front - when ever I do that, and also

Mostly it will help me in my day to day work and occasional family outings.

I plan to drag a trailer around with a hovercraft on it.

so folks let me know any ideas - web links - pictures etc, at present I am just not in a rush due to financial reasons - but want to step forward by at least finalizing in what I want.

Hi irfan,

You are talking about commandr hardtop 5 door model with XDp 4.90 2.1 litre 62 bhp engine. Unformtunately not many have done modifications on this variant. I suggest you to look at modifications on Bolero and you can have the same on commanedr HT aswell.

Get a 4x4 varient preferably factory fitted look for post 98 models as it came with Tubular chassis that are squeak free. If you arent bothered about high nise levels go for marshal 2000 that came with revised steering with smaller turning radius and a noisy but torquey DI engine that was phenominal on mileage. Also changes in suspension were done but didnt effect the comfort levels. Though vehicle stability inproved.Marshal will not cross 90 kmph in 4x4 varient.

Follow bolero modification patterns...that will suit marshal or commander Hardtop models

HI Vinod, thanks for the reply . Thats the exact vehicle I am on the lookout for ! but for some reason I have not been able to get one .... once I almost got at a bank auction a 1999 marshall 2wd but that got sold for 1.65 L**h.....some contractor who was in a hurry picked that up. I felt it was a very stupid price he paid for!

Does any one know of any 4wd Marshall's available anywhere for sale within Karnataka.

yup vinod I am ready to compromise on the speed, I am never inclined towards speed even on the highways!

There is a dealer who specialises in MUVs(the scorpio, qualis, tavera types) and Jeeps. He is located on the road that connects Makery Circle with Yeshwantpur (Not sure what the road is called). Maybe, you might find something there. PM me for instructions on how to get there.

Are you talking about Sandeep Motors diagonally opposite Sadashiv Nagar Police station ? If yes dont even bother going there since his prices for the SUV's/UV's/MUV's are outrageous.

your best bet would be to try sources in Mysore/ Gundlupet/ Hunsur/ Coorg/ Chikmagalur/ Hassan/ Sakleshpur areas. These vehicles are usually bought as utilities in those areas.
But unfortunately I dont personally know any sources - you'll have to work through the dealers.
Hope you get what you are looking for.

Never knew that about Sandeep Motors as I never had first hand experience with this dealer. Have always seen plenty of UV's with him when I passed by on that road, so I suggested.

@Irfanulla: When i was searching for a jeep, I found a dealer on Kanakapura road, before Metro Hypermart.

I dont remember the name of dealership. But the guys name is Prabhakar (mobile: 9740931611). This shop is located on left road that comes before Cauvery ford (now Magnum Honda) showroom. You can easily identify the place, its a tin roofed shed with many Jeeps parked. You can try this place.

Disclaimer: I never bought from this guy so dont know how reliable he is. Just check this out at your own risk :-).

PS: Please post your requirement on Jeepthrills yahoo & orkut groups. You might get more help.

Cheers!

HI Guy's thanks for all the help,

I am a member of the jeep thrills group too, never knew a yahoo group existed on this.

i have already posted on the Jeepthrills.in and never got a single response.

Anywayz I am going to start looking around myself.

I have seen sandeep motors on my way to peenya many times, never seen a jeep though, only bolero's at a minimum.

I have asked many and everyone points at coorg - madikere - Mangalore for the 4x4 hardtops,

since now I am being specific on the request of going in for only a Marshall 4x4 post 1999 model it further more difficult - If I find it difficult to get a 4x4 marshall - I might settle down for a 2wd - but I hope I get one in a good condition.

If you dont have a problem with TN Registration then you can consider sourcing out of Ooty and other places in the Nilgiris too. These Marshal 4WD's are quite common there too.

Nobody really posts on Jeepthrills.in site. The jeep_thrills yahoo group is the active one.
