Guys, I am still searching for the perfect material for my soft top. This will be done when I do a complete work on the CJ340, engine build, tyres, wheel and paint.

In the meanwhile I am now removing the original soft top and having a temporary one made. I am left with two options.
Either SRF or canvas. I agree both have its own pros and cons. Yet I am more inclined towards the canvas.

I have noticed that canvas tends to hold water and makes the top cave in. To set this right I am planning to have a mica strip above the front side, more like a sunroof.
And for the rear, taper it a bit for water flow.
Should I remove the scissor and bind it tight around the roll bars?

Please understand that this is a temporary solution. Or should I have a basic SRF top? I think its very practical. Yet I detest the shades offered. I am able to lay my hands only on grey and black. White/Beige would have been nice.

Know the stuff that's used for rain coats? My Jeep is wearing a derivative of the same type of rubber / rexine.

Sure does. But its not a biggie. Simply press your hand against the center point (of the water accumulation) when seated inside the Jeep

Don't think its going to be worth the effort. Go the standard & simple way only. Ol' Jeeps have enough other problem areas to test your trial & error skills anyways!

Very true.

In fact I had seen your Cl340 hood and was wondering what it was made out of. Tejas also had a similar one on his Classic.
Will try to get my hands on the rain coat stuff. Also there was a mention of the material used for parachutes. One of my friend picked it up from the army base here.

I got a custom roof made only for the front side. Fits like the original one on the windscreen and the back is velcroed to the roll bar. This is basically used to protect from the sun only.

What i used is the same rexine derivative that GTO said. It's the same stuff used by autorickshaws and you should get it for Rs.130 per metre at shops that sell stuff for car seat covers. A lot of colours are available but it is a little shiny. Try to get your hands on a matt finish one.

Yeah. I think I will stick with the normal beige canvas top for the time being.

1. "work" = worked on a NEW MM vehicle (THAR).
2. "prominent place" = AutoExpo 2010 at New Delhi in Pragati Maidan.

Quick update. Today I had the CJ340 inspected by a very good mechanic. He was one of the best around town. Now he works in the Dubai.
He told me not to touch the engine and it will run for another 1L without any problems.

So more money for tyres now.
