Based on the pattern and material used for these tyres what would you your answer be to the following questions -
  1. Which tyres you think are the best if one has 60% on road and 40% off road running?? YOKO or MICHELLIN
  2. Which tyres you think will have better ride quality on the highway?? YOKO; MICHELLIN IS THE BEST
  3. Which tyres you think will last longer?? BFG.

While we are at this topic , whats the difference between Yokohama Geolander A/T and Yokohama Geolander A/T - S

What difference does it make to on/off road driving ?

Well from what i know about Yokos, there have been 3 variants. First came the Yoko Geolander A/T+II then the Yoko Geolander A/T GO11 and then the Yoko Geolander A/T S GO12(current)

This is from a brief conversation that i had with the Yokohama sales head (mumbai) -

"Since the 3 have been in existence at different points in time it is the same tyre which has been renamed as and when a few modifications/upgrades/changes have come along. Currently only the Yoko Geo A/T S GO12 is available and the other 2 are not in production anymore."

Update......

Ok guys here is the update -

1. Have bought the tyres (Yokohama Geolander A/T S - 215/75/R15). the tyres will be installed on the stock rims and look like the perfect size for my application.(60% Highway 40% OTR)

2. Have got the break booster installed. I did manage to get the OEM booster that comes installed on the MPFI King. Getting the OEM booster helped a lot because i did not have to take the pain/risk of installing the esteem BB.

The esteem BB has 3 break lines and one of them has to be sealed as the gypsy has only 2. Also the linkage to the break paddle has to be extended to arrive at a perfect setting.

I did endup spending a bit more on the BB but i guess this setup is much more reliable as no modifications/alterations are involved and the BB is a bolt on.

nice choice of tyres and its size.

im glad you didnt go for bigger size as they have been a pain while turning and you dont want a tyre which touches the inside of the wheel well.

lets have a photo of the gypsy with the new shoes!

Congrats Kaushik,

Now you have OTR tyres and brake booster. What else would stop you from Participating in OTRs? Hope to see your gypsy in action , start with Raajmachi slush

Restoration Stage I

Hi guys, its been long(over 3months) since i have had the gypsy and have been working on its restoration.

On buying the gypsy i had decided to restore it in 2 major stages. This was because the gypsy came with a hard top which i wanted to keep till i get back from my Ladakh Trip(8th-24th Aug 2009). On getting back i intend to take the hard top off which would involve some painting and welding work again which will be done in stage 2 along with anything else that is required.

Till such time it was very important to make the Monster reliable and comfortable(how much every possible) as a very long and challenging journey was to be undertaken.

As a part of Stage 1 the major work that was carried out was -
  1. Mechanical checks and rectifications
  2. Electrical Work
  3. Denting, Painting & Glass work
  4. Brake Booster Installation
  5. Air Conditioner Installations
  6. A/T Tyres
  7. Seat upgrade
It has taken me a lot of time to get this far inspite of it being made easy due to the help i have received from a lot of people(i have realized how time consuming and difficult it is only after getting a hands on experience, needs a lot of patience).

I have been able to achieve all of the above only because of the help and support i received from pdev29(Devang, the first guys i ever spoke to on TBHP) who threw open his entire contact list and also put in a lot of time and effort. In fact it was Devang who directly & indirectly inspired me to go ahead with the discision to buy a Gypsy in the first place.

danlalan, xtremepower, abheekg, khansultan and many more tbhpians have been very very helpfull and have provided me a lot of support.

Thanx a lot guys!!!!

Just got back from a 200Km test drive...here are the pics
