Congratulations. You have a Gypsy with the perfect colour and you also have a nice restoration project ahead of you. I guess this thread turns into a step by step restoration one. Hope see the progress here as you go ahead.
Enjoy your new 4x4 :)
Thanx a lot guys!!!!

ya the color is good but the problem is its not allowed for civilians, so i will have to get the car painted.
Nothing major needs to be restored(except the interiors), mechanical parts in good shape. Some good detailed servicing and we are ready to go.
Are you keeping the hard top or crossing over to a softy? I think that can be easily done right?
Congrats KSM. As you said, some detailed service & interiors spricing, and you are ready to go.
I am assuming that all the oil marks are due to oil changes in diff/t-case.
Also, considering that you will be having this in Mumbai, when you get it painted, do get proper rust treatment done. Rust -- especially footwells & weehwells are prone to rust.
What's the dent on the front RH side?
Best of luck buddy.
Cheers,

well i am trying to get the best of both worlds. will keep the hard top on till i get back from the Leh ladakh trip(which was the source of inspiration behind the idea of buying the gypsy). Once i am back and the rains are over its going to be time for the hardy to move out and the softy to move in..

Thanx a lot Sir!!!
You got it right, the oil marks are due to the oil changes i did as a first step in the servicing list.
Well not to sure how the dent came there, but the damage is only superficial nothing major as the internal wall is perfectly in shape.
Will keep the rust treatment part in mind.
Had called to ask about how the ride quality could be made more comfortable(less bumpy). Is there something i can do to the suspension, seats etc.

Welcome to the world of Gypsy Ride -- suddenly ride quality has a different meaning. Right? :)
Here are few things you can do.
- Gas filled Shocks/Dampers (Peddars etc etc). Headers can give more inputs here as he has those on his Gypsy and the ride quality is great & race track worthy. Cost ~18K
- Remove one leaf from rear spring packs. This will make the ride better BUT reduces your load carrying capability and will make your leafs prone to breaking in rough OTR situations.
- Put more foam/get more comfortable seats -- though it will have NO impact on the bumpiness -- will make just marginal difference on how you feel it.
But, better get used to the bumpy gypsy ride. NO way you can compare it to any other thing out there.
What are the differences between the army spec Gypsy and the customer spec.
hi KSM-Vtec,
:OT
you have bought a uncut diamond coated in coal.
the Gypsy is in perfect shape as compared to scraped vehicle.
(or do you expect army to scrap new one)
i have bought 1990 one (government owned ) at 50k. :Frustrati
so when i say its a gem then just believe me.(or other t-bhp members/gurus)
just add some color ,some tuning, some bling & you are done.
# a question
what do you mean by
"Monster Gypsy"
(due to its condition or a bling-bling monster you want to make )
This one is far better than the Gypsies offered by Auto Agents. Atleast there is no paste make up.
Nice buy.
Congrats man
Some military spec. Gypsies are rumored to have PTO.Can anybody throw some light here?
Where's mine????? Still waiting.
Goodluck with the build mate...
Cheers
Thanx a lot Guys!!!

PTO - refers to those winches which are driven by the engine power using a power take-0ff unit.
But mine dosn't have one. They take off most of these extra fittings that are installed by them.
While the service happens i need to decide what colour to go in for, have almost decided to go matte black but suggestions are most welcome.
Photoshop Experts - Request your help on this urgently
Since i am going to retain the stock rims for some time i will need to paint them as well.
Also i will be adding 4 rally/fog lights in the front just below where "Maruti" is written on the bonnet (like in the 3rd pic below)
The following pics could be used to photoshop -

I dont think that there is anything like a "army spec" gypsy. I have seen a Gypsy 1.3 (carb) picked up rfom an army lot in Secunderabad and it was no different from the one i have.
I saw a Gypsy in Sawai madhopur with a removable cover bolted down on the rear of the trasnfer case jutting out in the cabin which i was told was used to run the "generator": never seen it before or after that! I am guessing this is some kinda PTO thing that used to come with Gypsies?
