Shibu,

Cool one. How much did you get it for?

Do you get spare synthetic rope, in case this one snaps? The steel ropes are easily avbl anywhere.

Thank you Santhosh & Tini,

I havent bought a spare rope, These synthetic ropes are becoming more and more popular now and its easy to find and much cheaper to ship due to light weight.

And I dont think I need a spare one right now. Read below for what the manufacturer is saying about it. Its breaking force is 19310 lbs!!

Rugged Ridge 10,500 Synthetic Rope Winch

• Constructed with Dyneema SK-75 fiber from the Netherlands.
• Same high strength fabric used in ballistic body armor.
• Significantly stronger than same diameter steel cable and up to 40% stronger than Kevlar.
• 1/7 the weight of the same diameter wire rope.
• Will not splinter, kink or curl like wire rope & floats in water.
• Specially coated to be resistant to UV, abrasions, and chemical solvents.
• Heavy Duty 3/8” 12-strand braid with a breaking force of 19,310lbs
• Protective sleeves keep line from overheating on winch drum.

For details please refer.
SYNTHETIC ROPE WINCHES by RUGGED RIDGE

I think I can also a steel rope on this winch if required!

Regarding the price it costed me INR 34K ( but without mouting plate)

Oooops thats an interesting news! Forever, what are the formalities to do like that. You have to do the mods like stearing position etc. Any idea about custom duty etc?

On Carnet maximum time limit is 6 months only isn't it?

Thanks,
Sadiq.

Sadiq, I know it will be the most exciting thing for me in my life if i could take my wrangler to India. But Its not easy. With the new rules they have made it almost impossible to do it. The new import regulations says, you can import a vehicle from abroad only if its less than three year old and it has to be a RHD. No more LHD imports. So I am still exploring all the possibilities and options for taking my Jeep with me home. Otherwise it will be heartbreaking for me. I am still trying to find out about the taxes. Anyways I am sure its going to be 100% +

Yes, Carnet DU Passage is valid only for 6 months. Thats why i said atleast for 6 months.

@Shibu:

LHD Import is impossible. I wanted to bring one with me when I moved back form the USA as Jeeps are really cheap there. Anyways rules are that only RHD and all imports have to go to Mumbai. Under TR you can bring a vehicle older than a year but provided you can prove that you owned it before. Duty is about 105% for TR and 175% for OGL. The kicker is that they don't care what price you paid. They take the value when new and allow depreciation of only 5% per year for a maximum of 4 years. Since vehicles depreciate a lot faster in developed countries, you duty ends up being multiple times the price you paid for the jeep.

Sorry to say this but permanent import of an LHD is impossible and and RHD won't make financial sense.

Spike, Wrangler YJ models used to come with 215/75 R15 & 235/75 R15 sizes and mostly Good Year Wrangler tyres. Dont know about other OE tyres. I think Bridgestone/Firestone is also OE supplier for Jeeps. But not sure though.

See the first pics in this thread. I got mine with 215/75 "Good year Wrangler" .

Hmm.. so now you know me.

New 10500lbs Winch installed!

Folks,

Finally I got my winch installed last weekend. Had to buy a Winch Mount plate separately. So with that plate specifically made for YJ from the same manufacturer Rugged Ridge, It took less than an hour for the installation.

See it for yourself.
