OK guys sending the pics of the landy, driving back through the back lanes along the canal, a Sikh religious procession on the occasion of Gur purab that held us up in one of the villages, all the ID plates were there, although painted over in black heres the chassis # that needed a light scrubbing with scotch brite and revealing the original colour, and finally a shot of the engine, its a 1968 diesel in good nick as well !! have to rewire, clean the radiator, paint the engine and peek at the gear boxes, differentials, clutch and fit a K&N dry conical filter for better performance. more as i strip it further!! Really need to get side panels with the sliding windows somewhere!!
regards
Polly

Hey Polly,

Congrats on your acquisition! Have you just bought it? Where did you get it from & how much did you pay, if you don't mind my asking? The condition looks good...

My Series 1 is starting to get restored today... will soon post some updates around it.

Share updates, as you proceed further with your work!

Abhishek

well picked it up in Chandigarh for quite a hefty sum , but considering the nick it was worth it as iam going to use it as an everyday vehicle. it was just used for the filming of the british film West is West a sequel to East is East of around 1997 both starring Om Puri it was used along with a Morris and Landmaster hand painted and dirtied to look like taxis. The Landy represented a Pakistani Vehicle !! Its "Star" !! Ive put pics of other vehicles in the same stable in Mohali.
Hey Abhi are you using that snorkel head attached to your air filter, wouldnt mind using it myself ?/

Thanks Jas... it is still in prelim stages. I am quite aspirational- so the garage has to keep up with my demands

I am also seriously trying to consider importing some of the parts- considering the amount of trouble one has trying to find parts.

I need some help from fellow BHPians. Anyone has a V8 in their Landy? I am getting one for sale in UK, along with a Series 2A gearbox. I have been told that it is one of the best combinations for serious offroading.

Secondly, can anyone provide exact details of how to import engines? I read through many posts but they are not specific.

Lets say, if I picked an engine up at eBay UK, how do we take it from there? I understand we will have to engage a freight forwarder- and work the details with them in terms of clearing the Custom & doing a door to door delivery or just shipping & getting Custom clearance through a local agent.

I would like to know contact details of freight forwarders that you may have used, or exact details of import penalty / taxes one may have paid. I understand that it can got up to 200% penalty on old engines, with 10-37% tax. Anyone can educate me further on this?

Thanks for your insights...

Abhishek

Am really excited to see the outcome of this. Also tell them to do completely. not a kaam chalao job. For Example: tell them to remove the dash and firewall part too and replace all the base nuts that fits on the ladder.
