Re: Offroading with Thar DI: The Sensible Option

Why not keep it DI but with a bit of increased torque. (If possible)

Why CRDe for 4WD again.
I mean if it really comes with CRDe then again Thar Bashing will start... saying CRDe is not easy on maintenance, ECU gets damaged, Not repairable at roadside garage etc etc.

Yet to see any DI 4WD TD report or any real news.

BTW this is still a dream:

Offroading with Thar DI: The Sensible Option-tharffa.jpg
Offroading with Thar DI: The Sensible Option-mmt4.jpg
CRDe,
4WD,
NGCS,
57/53" Solid axles (with FFRA)

BTW does anyone knows where this Thar will be now?
(& How many such Concept Thars were made)

Re: Offroading with Thar DI: The Sensible Option

Hi All, The Bolero has a DI Turbo Engine which I assume is Bharat Stage 4 compliant (since it's being sold in the Metros). How different is the Bolero engine from the engine in Thar DI?

AFAIK the DI is not BS4 complaint.

& the Thar DI engine is same as bolero DI engine.

the MDI 3200 TC

In metros the only Bolero you can register properly is the Bolero Storm CRDe. The DI Turbo is only BSIII so if you buy in metro you have to show *address proof* and register outside the city limits.

Why the kink spike? Can't the team at M&M re-engineer this odd steering position?

The Tata 3.0L is a true torque monster in 2WD form. Noisy but thats DI

DD: Great explanation of your conversion. Whats your reliability stakes now?

The THAR MDI, seems to have the DI turbo engine. This is the same engine as the ones found in the BOLERO SLX/SLE

Funny how we make rules in India which are impractical to enforce and *always* have workaround/loopholes.

This is precisely what I asked one of the senior technicians in an M&M service center long back. He just grinned and said - 'That is how it is'. I did not face this issue with my Classic although it was there in my Invader and Bolero Sportz!! Any idea if this is the case with export models as well?

The Bolero DI is getting registered in Hyderabad and I think I saw a BS-IV sticker also on one of them. May be they would have upgraded it considering the volumes it sells.

Very well said!!!

About the BSIII and BSIV confusion, there is no BSIV version of the Di in Bangalore with complete certainty. Im in touch with 3 different dealers on this. I will be booking my Thar in the first week of Feb '11 so ensuring that I keep all the dealers close to my heart for good reasons

The BS- IV shown in pics is of a Scorpio, so please don't speculate anything now.

Spike

PS- Starting April 2012 a few norms will come into place which will prove critical for sale of many vehicles in M1 and N1 category. It is not related to emissions but something else.
