Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde- From Doctor to Jeeper

Thanks Santosh. The soft-top guy has a team with him. They stock all the necessary items with them. Pretty fast too. Finished the whole job in 3 days

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde- From Doctor to Jeeper

Bhpians; An update:

Got a few things on my Jeep

1. Runwa Winch (Thanks Harjeev)
2. Winch plate with bumper and bullbar
3. Conversion of filter to paper-type and Snorkel set-up
4. Differential guards
5. Rocksliders
6. Fender extensions
7. Flag post
All these were possible thanks to Swastik Viji.
8. Changed the position of the battery as it was putting load on the front right fender in its earlier position (Thanks Santosh)

A picture speaks a 1000 words...

Doc - operate the winch once... manually pull out the whole length of the cable (minus last 2-3 rools on the drum) - then ask someone to slowly rev the engine and you stand outside and respool the cable back onto the winch. Sometime later lets fix that bend on the fender using manpower!!

Looks are a killer!!

@ Santosh:
Thanks a lot. You are the 'Transformer' of this Jeep. I already operated the winch yesterday with mechanics help. Now for offroad use!!
@ Mohan:
Thank you. Yes, am driving it daily now. It's lot of fun and keep getting a lot of stares and questions. Best part: all the cops in my area know me as 'Jeep Doctor'!!!

Dr. Madhu,

Great metamorphosis !

Its a lot of effort and the right taste to get it to this stage, Vijay's stuff is all over and looking good.

Just one thing, get the snorkel level a bit below the 'A' pillar.

I got infected long time back and now its 'Chronic Infectious Jeep Syndrome' and the intervention i got is by buying two deadly Offroaders.

A 1942 GPW and 1991 Isuzu Trooper.

I am also looking for a Defender,FJ62 and a Patrol.
Silverwood,
Eventually other than GPW & the Isuzu Trooper which other vehicle did you acquire?
Could I add a +1 while you are hunting for the FJ62?

Very neat make over! Looks better than a Thar now. This bumper is custom made or off the shelf? It looks even better if you weld those hooks like on Kandaisa's jeep (attached) instead of putting nut & bolt. Please give a little more tilt to bull bar too.

Thank you Sir:-) Yes. Viji was really helpful in bringing it up. Actually we had reduced the pipe length a bit, maybe needs further reduction. Thanks.

Thanks Salikt. The bumper and winch plate are custom made by Swastik Viji. Actually what you have pointed may be right. Welding it may strenghten it up a bit more. Hmm..let me chat with the mech today.

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde- From Doctor to Jeeper

That's a neat looking machine,a job very well done. There is one possible area requiring some attention caught my eye,i feel the front bumper is too close to the fenders, since there is extremely less gap,the moment the jeep articulates, the bumper can damage the fenders and misaligne the bonnet as well,as bonnet, fenders and the grill are aligned together,my two cents, just try to articulate and see if the front bumper clearance is more than enough or needs to be extended.Mine has been extended to have a restriction free articulation.by the way, what bolts are you using on the front tow mounts?whats the tensile strength?

Renegade,

What you are stating about the gap is right but, the body moves in the same degree as the front bumper during articulation.

It is only the front and rear axles that move up or down in the tyre wells, as the rest of the tub which is fixed on to the chassis along with the front bumper will maintain the same distance between themselves.

I have attached a pic. of my Jeep in articulation with the red lines showing the nearly flat parallel plane between the fenders and bumper. Green line showing angle of the axle.
Regards,

However, Dr. Madhu the distance between the right and left fender end and mudguards is disproportionate marked by the red boxes and the angle of the right tow shackle is visibly tilted and not as the left, align the right to the left.

Minor things but they make a huge statement when done.

Regards,

Fazal,i had this issue so i suggested it,mere line drawing on software does not depict the real problem, try it out on a 540/550,i beg to differ from your point of view as all incline and decline are not at same angle, the approach is never the same,it will hamper the fenders,i have nothing to do with this particular jeep,i know what i build and for what purpose.
