Re: Happy 17th birthday, Team-BHP!

Wishing Team BHP a Very Happy Birthday.

17 years in the Indian context is when you step into college or your Under Graduate years. The irony is TBHP has been educating us @ Post Doctoral level since its infancy. Such is the power of this forum.

Once again I regard it a privilege to be part of this forum & wish it to remain this way. So here are my likes / dislikes:

Likes:

1) In a world of toxic Social Media, TBHP is a refreshing change. You can voice your opinion & not get trolled.
2) Honest reviews. Telling it how it is, no punches pulled.
3) Voice of Customer including long term use reviews, mods done & increasingly DIY fixes. DIY posts remind me of Popular Mechanics magazine I used to read as a kid.

Dislikes:

1) TBHP may have started as an Automotive forum. However it is now far more than that. To me it is a mix of Jalopnik, Popular Mechanics, Tripadvisor, National Geographic, Health & Fitness, Reddit & Quora.
Allow me to elaborate. Some of the best posts are the Travelogues on this forum. As are the quality of photos posted. The current format & mast head dont reflect this. I think a revamp in terms of links to the most read / engaged posts with headers like DIY, Travelogues, Personal Fitness, Helpline should be done.
2) Similarly there is a vast amount of image content which can be similarly classified making it easier to quickly access.

Think of my dislikes not as cribs but something I would like my favorite forum to evolve into. It's great as it is. Just that as it crosses its teens the status of a legend awaits it.

Happy Birthday once again!!!

Re: Happy 17th birthday, Team-BHP!

Happy birthday to Team-BHP 🎂

The forum really opened up my thinking and knowledge base a lot even in topics apart from cars/bikes.

So, here is a quick analysis by me:

Likes-
1. Huge diversity among members with everyone sharing a common passion and love for cars. We have the elder members ranging from V.Narayan sir and Ajmat sir to the teens like me and CEF_Beasts. It's fascinating to hear several thoughts and opinions across such a diverse fraternity.
2. Content, content and bucketloads of quality content. From a ball-bearing of a swift to engine swap in a brio, you'll find talks on everything on wheels here and some more.
3. Knowledgeable mods and BHPians very patiently correcting someone and trying to maintain the standard of the forum.
4. Last but not the least it's much more than just a community of car fanatics. You can have any part of a Maruti Suzuki vehicle with the help of Leoshashi sir to mouth watering deals on bimmers through Turbanator sir and life advice by V.Narayan sir to GTO sir mentioning several times to never to adopt habits like smoking.

Dislikes-
1. I think however stringent and rigurous the membership approval process is, some paid keyboard warriors/ desperate fanboys (no offence meant to anyone) do end up in this forum. You can see them running like crazy from one thread to another when their brands face backlashes due to their own wrongdoings.
2. Some people lose cool easily while discussing on a controversial topic and sometimes we end up posting before having a proper look at the words. It's always good to calm down take deep breath, have a glass of water maybe and think if someone posted the same reply to you then how you would have felt.
3. Limited social media reach.

That said, small quirks are a part of every community. Proud to be a member here and look forward to years of motoring experiences from all the BHPians.

Cheers!

Happy birthday Team-BHP!

Likes: Everything about it.
This is the place where I learnt it all, be it turbos, swaps, NOS, racing lines, drags, track days and much more interesting stuff
I love the old-school style and easy to read forum.

Not dislikes, but something that can be made better
Hey guys, don't we all remember the golden time in Team-BHP when we weren't discussing all these vehicle sales statistics, climate of India, demonetization, and other boring matters?
We discussed about performance mods, K&N, tuners, Turbocharging, Supercharging etc.
There was a time when everyone would go to some tuner, and go forced induction or a fully blown NA mod.
At those times, we discussed everything scientifical and mechanical about engines, pressure, swaps and what not!
There were times when someone will start a small thread, which would eventually evolve to illegal trackdays and big-meets from all over the country.
Those were the best times of Team-BHP, in my opinion.
No offence, but I love to read all those mud-slinging thread on ICE installers and tuners, and then all those funny and sarcastic going off-topic until Rehaan sir gives a warning?
All those fights, and then reconciling, and meeting again, going to tracks and those late night coffees in Cafe Coffee Days
Wow, those were the real times!
(I haven't experienced any of it though, but I enjoy reading those threads)
I wish we could have those times back

Happy 17th Birthday, Team-BHP!

As an avid reader of the forum for over a decade, and an official member for probably a quarter of that duration (I blame laziness ), it’s been an incredible journey!

Likes
  • Detail, Detail, Detail! Every thread, be it a review, ownership report, or anything else, is extremely detailed!
  • The ability of the forum to generate interest on almost any topic under the Sun! Team-BHP is one of only 3 websites that I visit daily. (The others being SkySports and AnandTech)

Dislikes
  • Gaining entry into the forum isn’t easy.
  • The UI/UX of the site needs an overhaul. Sure, maybe the loading speeds compensate in-part for it, but a little polish could go a long way in drawing more visitors and members.

Sharing a couple of pictures from today’s birthday meet with Mumbai and Pune members at Mapro Garden, Lonavla:

1- People on board are generally very nice and helpful. They have experience and it tells when they reply. I am beyond the "car is my life" stage. But I still read the threads on other aspects of life which are covered here.

Dislikes:
1- People who made meaningful contribution but got banned due to violation of rules later on. There has to be some sort of closure other users. I have no idea what it might be like. But it does stick like a sore point.

Re: Happy 17th birthday, Team-BHP!

Congrats to everyone - and to the Admin & Mod team for this milestone.

Have been part of TBHP for a long time now, and have seen it evolve through the years, the way it has grown, the authentic scoops by people like RavenAvi and others. Have seen the sad moments of losing members - including some wonderful people like GTO mentioned.

But GTO & Rehaan - really appreciate the honestly listing of the Dislikes. Agree with you on those.

So here's Wishing TBHP a very Happy Birthday, and looking forward to many more exciting years.

Wishing Team BHP a very happy birthday!
Congratulations to the founders, moderators and all the staff members of the forum!

Likes
  • One of the rare forums that respects quality and discipline when it comes to content and it shows always.
  • Eye to detail in ownership reviews and ensuring factual details are always communicated to the members objectively.
  • A forum that has a good balance in analysis and communication of the same.

Improvements
  • Provision to add and have more of emojis in the discussions!
  • Official bike and scooter reviews.
Personally, over the years this has been a "go-to" forum for me to relax and de-stress myself just by browsing through the various threads and posts. The learning and knowledge shared is really amazing and it helps in making informed decisions. Maintaining high quality so long requires conviction and discipline and I wish it remains so. That is what sets it apart.

Once again my best wishes to Team BHP and the entire staff!

Re: Happy 17th birthday, Team-BHP!

Wish a very happy 17th Birthday to Team-BHP!

This forums has grown into an absolutely fantastic forum, so much so that this has become part my our daily lives. Team-bhp is my single (and most trusted source) for any information for cars and travels, and has been so for more than a decade.

Congratulations to Team-bhp founders, moderators, and all the members for this wonderful journey.

I wholeheartedly agree with all the "likes" mentioned by various members. I also agree with some of the "dislikes" shared by various members. Therefore, I will not repeat the same points.

However, one other point where we could do better and need to do better (as the forum and for the content of the forum) is to sometimes not bring our own cars in every discussion. I absolutely agree that we all love our cars, no matter what those cars are, and our own cars have a special place in our hearts. I absolutely respect that! However, that does not mean we include our car as an example of every interesting thread being discussed. Love for cars is good, but let it not be blind love.

For example, some very interesting threads such as "Most Timeless Cars", or "The Best Enthusiast's Cars" or "Cars that Punch Above their Weight" started off great with initial few posts, but quickly got diluted by nomination of every car sold in India into those threads. These threads quickly became "quantity over quality", instead of staying "quality over quantity". I really wish somehow this one behavioral point of us together as a community is improved.

But in spite of these few small dislikes, this is indeed an amazing forum that will always have a special place in our hearts!

I met many of my close friends in Bangalore through this forum for the first time. Here is a picture from my very first team-bhp meet, and I am happy to say that most of these guys are now close friends! And although our cars have changed now, even our cars are close friends with each other :-)

Happy 17th birthday, Team-BHP!-dsc00031.jpg
My first Team-bhp meet!

Wish Team-bhp all the best for the future journey, and thanks to everyone for making this forum such a wonderful place!

Re: Happy 17th birthday, Team-BHP!

Congrats Team-Bhp, despite being one of the newer members of this community, I’ve always felt that I belong here. I really had to think hard on the dislikes which goes to show what an evolved platform this is.

To summarise:

Likes:

1) The people: Offcourse there are the odd cynical lot but a vast majority of people in this platform are great people. So much so that I’ve been able to ask opinions on some important life choices on this platform and sure enough each and every reply I got was useful and unique.

2) The cars: Well, I’ve loved cars since I was a kid, so being part of such a platform is my childhood dream come true!

3) Everything else that I love: the flexibility of this forum means multiple topics can be discussed. Everything from Rafales to travelogues to weight loss.

4) Civil debate: Again, while some topics heat up (like the Safari debate ) forcing GTO / mods to intervene, for the most part debates are civil and the members just agree to disagree.

Dislikes:

1) Navigation: Really hard to find your own public profile for example.

Re: Happy 17th birthday, Team-BHP!

Congratulations Rush and the entire team. It is wonderful to see that the spirit of the site is still what it was about a decade ago. A single pet peeve, perhaps the modification section has become less exciting, but we have the car manufacturers to thank for that, and many of the people have moved on to other things in life.

But I still try and find a few minutes every week to browse through the forums (usually not logged in) and check out the news. The quality of the reviews has been maintained since the first review you guys published, and I salute you guys for that. I still only rely on TBHP reviews if I'm interested in buying a particular car.

Thanks for maintaining the quality of the site through it all. Here's to another 17!

Re: Happy 17th birthday, Team-BHP!

This forum is a treasure house of not just information, but also memories!

I love browsing through random interesting threads from the early 2000's; the pictures, the experiences and the visible comradeship people have shared over the years on this site provide proper nostalgic and sentimental worth.

While it is indeed sad to see that many cherished members are not among us anymore today, we need to be grateful for the fact that they contributed to Team BHP and helped shape our lives in some small / large way, known or unknown to us.

The fact that so many different people from all walks of life come together here to enjoy a common thing - a lovely, sculpted hunk of metal - putting aside all of our differences, is crazy awesome to me!

Long live TBHP and us BHPians!
