Re: Which bicycle did you own in your childhood?

My first one was a Raleigh and second one was Hercules. The first one I rode extensively without being able to touch my feet to ground from seat nor with feet on pedal when it was at the lower point. Used to push against the pedal arm while pushing the other pedal !

Mine was Hercules MTB Rockshox, the one without the gears.
The most fun was to ride it hard then brake with full force (the brakes used to make a strange noise) and observe the reaction of nearby people.

Re: Which bicycle did you own in your childhood?

Learnt cycling on a Hercules Ladies Cycle, should have been a 14" frame, which my mother also used.
Also had the Full Sized Hercules Mens, and BSA SLR Mens (red).
Got my own Hercules MTB (no shocks), Black, with Black coated rims, and with those Horned handle extensions, that I later chopped off.

Decades later, got a Cannondale Quick 4.

Now have a Firefox Nexus Single speed.

Re: Which bicycle did you own in your childhood?

Wow this brought back so many memories of childhood.

Mine was Hero Ranger Swing (Purple colour) which was one of the first one to come with 21 gears and shockers to both wheels. To add to that mine was the first one in our colony, which made me famous for quite some time. Everyone wanted to see how gears worked and people used to get shocked to hear it had 21 gears (7 front and 3 rear).

It felt quite funny to ride in lower gear with your feat moving fast but cycle going slow. Did quite a lot of adventures on it. It died a slow death once I got my bike in college.

I had (and still have) a Hercules Terminator v2. I've modified it with a 7-Speed Shimano shifter and V-Brake(front brake) combo.

Re: Which bicycle did you own in your childhood?

This thread brings back a lot of old memories.

I learnt how to cycle on a hand-me-down Hamilton kids cycle. Now this was a fairly unique model - it was a miniature version of the dhoodhwala type of cycle (a mini Hero Jet). As soon as I learnt how to cycle, I used to take every opportunity to ride around my part of town. My buddies and I used to spend hours exploring small lanes in our area on these bikes. Back in the 80s, my hometown was pretty safe and my parents didn't mind us riding around town so long as we were back before dark.

My first bike purchase was a Hero Ranger LE a slightly souped up Hero Ranger with black and red stickering. Very basic single speed setup with no suspension (except for the springed saddle). I picked up the bike for a privately sum of 1200 back in the mid 90s. I later convinced my parents to allow me to upgrade the drive train to a Shimano 5 speed with a stem based shifter, back when geared cycles were practically unheard of. I recall that the Shimano system cost nearly 50% of the bike cost! I did a couple of long rides on that bike with a local adventure club.

A few years ago I rekindled my interest in cycling with a Btwin Riverside 120 hybrid. Recently picked up an E- motorad ecycle for nearby errands.

Started with BSA Champ and then to Streetcat and then the Streetcat with Shimano gears. Used to ride it to school.

Simpler times, Happier times...
