my 2 cents....
Beyond a limit, it's impossible to keep the cabin insulated for sound, in regular cars, doesn't matter the quantity/quality/price of the damping material used.
Reason ?
The glass area.
Many modern cars have acoustically laminated front and back windshields, but only the true luxury segment (RR, bentley, S-class etc) get double-glazed windows.

I think you are right, its seems to follow the low of diminishing returns. i heard on a YouTube video that one layer provides 80% of the damping, so even if you add more layers (generally guys sell you 3 layers), the return (sound proofing) doesn't increase accordingly
It used to be that people put just small amounts of damping on door panels. The idea was not to sound-proof, but to literally damp the panel and prevent it ringing. This alone was sufficient to enhance the experience of listening to music in the car.
Does anyone have an idea about the 3M audio damping? Is it good? I was quoted 6700/- for 4 doors + boot by the local 3M shop, which seems to very cheap compared to some of the prices here.
Also, I asked the dealer to show me the product that they'll use - it looked like a whole roll of soft, spongy cotton type foam and few pieces of hard rectangular plastic that looked like aluminum foil. All in all, nothing like the sheets that are shown in the images in this thread.
Can someone tell me what exactly is this that 3M is selling and is it worth going for it. Thanks!
Got the vibromax damping done last Sunday. Good vfm damping. The boot will be done this weekend.
If one has the time(especially since we have not many places to go during weekends) can do a DIY as I did on my Creta.
During the speakers installation I did not opt for any professional damping and put it off for later. (as you can see from the pics)
During the lock down I happened to come across this reasonably good damping material available at a reasonable price (through social media). I took a chance by ordering it online and waited with albeit baited breath till it arrived (this was first of a kind purchase I had done through Instagram). But the seller
@vibrofiltr_india was very prompt in responding and shipping the product. I procured 15 sheets at about 10.5k including shipping. The thickness was 1.8mm.
All you need are simple tools and time and love for the car to get it done yourself. Adding a few pics I took during the process.

Tools needed

Foam damping installer gave with the speakers - Front door before

Inside layer

Front door done

Rear door before

Inside layer

Rear door final
After this, there is a considerable reduction of road noise in the cabin, remarkable improvement in sound quality and doors feel solid.
All in all, very satisfied with the time, effort and money spent.

Are you finding good difference in audio quality and muted road noise ?

I have done the damping only for front doors. It was to supplement the audio upgrade and it's working well. There are no rattles from the doors :thumbs up.
Damping the doors won't really mute the road / outside noise to a big extent.
hi guys,
has anyone used MLV - Mass Loaded Vinyl - to kill outside noise in cars ? On all the US car forums, that is the material recommended for killing outside car noise.
It is readily available on amazon and doesnt look to be costing much -

Any advice/experience here ?
I browsed 20 pages of the 86 but found no reference for anyone in Mumbai doing this. Can anyone help me with a Mumbai contact- or then here is my question-

Roofliner
DampMat, Dr Artrex are names I see here- as I am NOT a DIY person, references from Mumbai or Pune are welcome. Bafna from Pune is a name I saw a lot, so- if anyone can help share aa few pointers, I would be grateful.

You could probably try Tufkote in Goregaon. They are the official dealers for Dinitrol and they do offer sound deadening sheet installation and also have a spray on option as well.

Contact the chaps @
Sound Factor, Mumbai over FB/Instagram. It is run by a chap named Ramnik Singh Matharoo.
PS: I have no commercial interest, just helping out a fellow BHPian.

Hi H & A,
Try FM Drive at Santa Cruz (West) just opposite the side entrance of "Khira Nagar". Pankaj, the Owner is a very decent guy and has been doing sound systems (and damping) for the last 25 years. I would definitely recommend him. He quoted 14k for a Honda BRV which is the same area as yours. However, roof liner will be extra.
Cheers,
SS
