there is a kenwood HU ( 5039 IIRC) which goes for 5.5k grey
PS: if you were planning to go the B&W route, why not try the alpine 9870. 9k, not many features, but superb SQ
/me has one . I'm sure even hydra will approve . pity alpine is not available grey :(

@phamilyman, I'd also second the Kenwood 5039U. Looks perfect for your budget. That will leave 6.5K (considering a 12K budget). You can get the GT5 comps and still have money left over.

The Pio4050 + GT5 comps is not a bad combo.

If you can stretch your budget a bit to 10K, the Kenwood 6539U looks like the best bet. hellspawn (and noidaboy also I think) run these HUs and they like them very much.

@Greenhorn, you're right -- only 1 preout and a congested display at the 9K point is not so good, when other HUs in the same price point will have 2 preouts at least.
