I tried using my 6230 as a MP3 player (with a 1GB SD card it could store like 200 songs). but it was cumbersome. Now I got a ipod 60GB that has about 8000 songs (54GGB full). I wish they had a 100GB ipod as I have already filled my the 60GB and I still got a few more CDs to rip.

This way I dont need to change CDs. remember to carry a particular CD etc... it is with me as a walkman or as a car stereo all the time.

If I get rid of the HU (I haven't got any at the moment), then do I need a preamp to connect my phone to the HU or can I connect it directly to the amps.

Can the audio gurus come up with a setup idea ?

My car: Indica V2 DLS (can confirm the detail once I am back in India next month)
Budget: Rs. 10,000
Wanted: average sound quality using my mobile instead of HU
I believe Indica DLS has got space for two speakers on front doors, not sure about the back. Not looking for any bass enhancing tool two front and two rear speakers will do.

axually it is quite a viable project with the laptops.

you just need to get a sempron/celeron 14-15.4 inch notebook with 256 megs Ram and a heavy duty sound card. may cost around 50k but that is what you pay for a high end HU

no they can. Todays laptops have shock mounted harddrives. i axually used my compaq R4000 as a music player and boy it was so excellent. No need for amplifiers or presets. I tweaked it all from the laptop and My lancer was a music power house.

My athlon 4000+ lasted me for 4hours so I hope a small centrino or turion laptop with a bigger battery can do more with ease and a lighter charger can further improve its portability.

Navinji, there are already many "Carputer"s available. This is not new. People in the US and Australia have been doing this for a while now. Some guys have even written extensive programs for sound cards like Creative Extigy that let one do XO and TA duties on the Carputer.

Check out http://www.xenarc.com/product/mp-fl8.html

Cheers
