Was it? I alwys thought the Conti 1.8 was faster. Maybe it was beucase you could hit potholes harder in the Conti that in the Esteem.

Nope. The Esteems were faster. That's because once you hit a certain speed, around 90km/h, you reached critical velocity & the car would fly over potholes.

A speedbreaker was another matter. Hit one of those & you'd find yourself sitting in your car in somebody's first floor apartment.

Conti had more power but additional weight too! I think the Conti touched a 100 in 15 - 16 seconds, while the Esteem did it in 13 (carb engine). Plus the Esteem could handle better.

Sam, this is a thread started by GTO. Since he prefers Enginve to ICE let him. We can cut paste and move the thread if it goes too OT. Conti touched 100 in 14 secs so maybe the Esteem was faster on a track/test conditions but I just loved the gorwl of the 1.8 engine and it sure scared the taxi drivers. The 1.3 engine was too tinny, it sounded like a chipmunk version of the 1.8.

ICE is cool, engines hot
Navin may sway, but Sam must not.

(pardon the uber corny stuff, its a moment of inspiration/madness - and Sam being the guru n all)

zenx, Sam knows this. I have done some car stuff in my younger days and still have a soft spot for engines (I got an RS despite knowing that I will be chauffered most of the time).

Yeah, the conti had a lovely growl, but the esteem had, is & will outrun the elephant any day, not necessarily track/test conditions.

Yeah I kinda gathered that while searching for various things - that must be one under-driven RS Do you secretly take her out for a spin late at night, when all is still and calm (mask, cape n all...) ?
ok this has gone wayyyy OT. Apologies.

Cape yes, no mask. It hinders listening.

Wait till I'm complete with a project I'm thinking of starting, putting in a nice 3L straight-six into the Conti coupled to a six-speed manual and then we'll talk performance again

Rags, you're gonna be banned for irrelevance to the forum. This is the ICE section.

Your post should read thus:
" Wait till I'm complete with a project I'm thinking of starting, putting in a nice 3L straight-six into the Conti coupled to a six-speed manual and then we'll talk performance again. I'll add two paper 4" speakers & a Takara tape deck & then have the car deadened for sound so I get concert hall clarity whilst I do the quarter mile in 5.4 seconds, with a Reaction Time of 4.3 seconds, since I'd be adjusting the inbuilt equalizer on the Takara. "
